I've been trying to log in to my account on my MacBook Pro, and it's not working properly. It keeps prompting me to enter the verification code from my email account, but it's not sending the email. Maybe they're having server issues? I'm able to log in on my desktop, though.
After the downtime, the checkout didn't work for a couple of hours. Then more downtime. They really need to sort it out.
There was global downtime on Steam that day for several hours - you obviously weren't online on Christmas Day! I tried before Doctor Who (around 7pm) and it was already down. As in steampowered.com was down - confirmed by doj.me, too. You'll not people still having issues connecting at 3.30am. AND they were down at 5.30pm the following day, from the comments.
