    Energizer Lithium Battery - Dangerous?

I was taking apart a Lithium battery which was a standard AA by Engergizer, which was dead.

I got the top cathode cap off, and my god. It stunk so bad. Like incredibly powerful rotten eggs and milk. It made me quite sick actually.

Anyway, is the smell toxic or dangerous?

I was trying to get the lithium out to store into a air tight container. Dont know what for exactly. I was just bored.

The smell was probably sulfur. as long as you didn't eat it you should be fine. Lithium batteries can get really hot if you dismantle them, and the lithium inside is really reactive to almost anything, especially water. Watch out man. I guess you are the guy who doesn't read the warnings:lol:. Don't worry Darwin's coming for you, just not today.

lol. I know not to short it out or put it in water.

When you put it in water, it makes I think it was hydrogen?
And if you light it, it acts like magnesium if I remember from science class

It also reacts quickly with oxygen or carbon dioxide.

    Something like that...........

It reacts quickly with oxygen and becomes a dull shade of grey (if you cut it it would be shiny again but turn dull quickly. if it meets water it produces alot of hydrogen and sets on fire and if you light it, it probably gives off something you dont want to be breathing in.

Lithium sterilyzes water or something to that effect.

The hell are you taking lithium batteries apart for? Making some homebrew meth?

Not a smart move unless you're wearing a nice full body suit. FWIW lithium needs oxygen to burn but its water or water vapor that it reacts with violently. Given you're in Australia most of the area beyond the coast probably has low humidity.
