Video games are so damn expensive here, especially Nintendo for some strange reason....
Games like Donkey kong country sell on ebay Japan for about $10, where as here they sell for $70+ loose..

What English friendly games can you think of that are NTSC-J? By English friendly I mean games that are fully playable without needing much text or have English as a language option?

Or name some cart based games (NES,SNES) that are easy to get working swapping out the mask roms for EPROMS with English versions but that a little beyond the scope of this thread..

    Thanks :)

Pretty much any arcade-style game requires minimal (or no) knowledge of the language. Racing and fighting games are usually like that. Platformers usually don't require much knowledge of the language, but sometimes you'll miss stuff.

Tetris games are often extremely friendly.
Mario & Wario plays in English.
F-Zero Climax is interesting. A mix of English menus and voice acting, with bits of Japanese tossed around. Then walls of text for the database feature!

The price craziness will be games like Mega Man X3. SNES loose JP version is 35, US version is 150.

I feel your pain. I wanted to build up a SNES collection but quickly found out that it just wasn't feasible with PAL prices. Ended up getting the majority of my collection from Japan. Even with postage it ended up cheaper in many cases, although yamatoku-classic have started taking the p*ss with their current postage charges:
