From what I read this is basically a PC in a console form, and a litle expensive but still looks like a cool investment. Since this is basically a PC that can have Linux and Windows OS on it I assume you can play Windows PC games on? Not sure what to expect but here is info on it. Does anyone here think this will succeed or fail? http://www.evo-phase1.com/
i talked about a similar idea with my brother over 5 years ago, so i like that someone is trying it for real!
I am as well but what would sell any doubt of buying one would be that I can play atleast some of the newer PC games for Windows on the machine. I went to the website and recognized Hexen, I also went to the EVO store and saw Gears of War for download. So as long as this is what they are offering, as well as homebrew and media centers as it suggest I might invest in this. Price is a little steep and I would like a bigger harddrive but I am sure it can be replaced easy.
My first thought was "oh great, a $600 box to play minetux, solitux and tuxtris". Looking at the Evo site it looks as though Gears is available there, but it's also got the system requirements right next to it: Windows XP/Vista. I don't really see the point of buying a linux-based gaming device if I have to boot into XP just to play games. The VOIP and other online services certainly seem fairly ambitious, until you realise that they're only making 500-1300 of these for North America, at which point I become completely confused as to how this tallies with the kind of service they're claiming to offer.
Biometrics?? what on earth for? Won't be surprised if this disappears at that price point. Smells of Pippin.
not again! every now and then a company comes forth with a "revolutionary" console which happens to be off-the-shelf components in a box, looking for investor's interest and publicity and then ending up in vapor. Funny enough, they accept deposits for the console right now - a good investment if you like getting conned
Not really. It doesn't smell like an investment capital scam to me. If it was they wouldn't be admitting to such a low run - there's just no profit to be made on shipping 1300 units. I think this is a box made by a bunch of linux geeks for themselves and their friends. I'm also pretty confident the box itself is only meant to draw attention to the services which they provide on it, which you have to pay for. It's not even a trojan horse, it's just a talking point to raise awareness of what they're offering.
