So...your opinions about Epic Mickey? Will it be as great as they say or it will be just a decent game and nothing more? It deserves its hype or is it too much overrated? Will you buy it, you're uninterested or you'll think about it? My opinions: At first I was interested with the whole gameplay and story concept and the dark style it first had the concept art giving Mickey (which I hate a lot) and the universe of the game an surprisingly interesting bizarre, mature look. http://www.joystiq.com/photos/epic-mickey-concept-art/#/0 Then the gameplay videos came out and I was disappointed that it wasn't as dark as it looked at the concept art. Sure, it's not the happy-go-lucky Mickey we all know but it's not dark enough to attract my attention either. Moreover, the creator started spamming us about how much the game will be great to the point that we're talking about the game that will reach the fame of Super Mario on the videogame industry. http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/article.php?id=21173 http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/article.php?id=21360 Seriously now, all this overhype from its creator reminds me the John Romero's Daikatana fiasco where he was proud about how much the game will be great, we all had great expectations but in the end it was a huge failure. It also reminds me developers like Ed Boon (the creator of Mortal Kombat) which even thought they make mediocre or crappy game they think they made a revolution. Just because you made some outstanding games of the past doesn't mean that you will always make great games on the presend and futute as well. If you 're actually so talented as you want to be proud of then let your works talk for you. I don't say that the Epic Mickey will suck (maybe it will be as good as it looks) but I have fed with the creator's spamming to the point to lose my interest about the game. Maybe I'll give it a try (or a look) when it will be published. Ok, it's not bad to have faith to your project and advertise it as much as you can but don't overdo it! In three words, Mr Spector (the creator of Epic Mickey): NO MORE SPAMMING!!! Αnd one last thing before closing this thread. The age rating of the game shows how much the game will be mature: PEGI: 7 ESRB: Everyone That explains everything.
He must have been totally stodne when he said that. A man like Warren Spector whose knowledge about movies, games and comics is very extensive wouldn't seriously consider Mickey a video game hero like Mario. That's as if Superman should now become the world's most famous singer because they made one Superman music video. What Epic Mickey is concerned: I prefer the Duck universe, but I really dig the old Gottfredson Mickey & Goofy daily strips. The jokes, the art, the stories... just wonderful. If Epic Mickey had become a game that played like on of these comic strips, I'd probably even considered buying a Wii for it. But now it looks like they took Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank or whatever and put Mickey in. Boooring... the most interesting and fun part seems to be the Steamboat Willie part but I'm sure sequences of that style represent only a very small bit of the entire game.
I'm not sure. I have huge faith in Spector but so far i haven't really been blown away but the videos i've seen online. As well the whole paint/paint thinner mechanic feels so heavily baked into the game that it's borderline binary. I know part of this is probably just limitations of the wii or design but I feel like it's a great idea that isn't being taken far enough. =/
If it's as enjoyable as the one for genesis I will be happy. I hope it has a klonoa gameplay to it, and not a "cool spot" gameplay
Actually, in the video the guy says his goal is to make this game on par with Mario, Sonic, etc. He's not bragging, just stating his goal.
I hate the word Epic now, ever freaking game designer is using to show off there product. EG, Kirbys epic yarn, Epic mickey. Fuck off with the overuse of that word
Didn't they listen to some focus group and end up removing the evil Mickey? I really loved how the first concept art looked, with all the zombie-ish characters and bizarre mishmash characters, but now it looks nothing like that. I might give it a try, but it doesn't look very good now.
Good point. In the case of Kirby's new game (which is one of the most original and dreamy games I've ever played and one of the reasons I'm proud to own a Wii) a title like "Kirby's Cute Yard" would be more accurate. In Mickey Mania the first stage was Steamboat Willie and on Kingdom Heart's II there is a world with Steamboat Willie theme. Same thing.
Land of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse is one of the best games ever! I played the crap out of that game. If Epic Mickey is half as good as land of Illusion, I'll buy it.
Sorry but no it's not. You made it sound like the guy is stating that his game will be so super fantastic that it will make Mickey Mouse a better video game character than Super Mario. In real life he says he wants to make his game on that level, not he already has. You make the guy sound like an arrogant prick when in real life he's totally not.
Hehe, Why does everybody compare the game to old mickey game? Those where all by capcom during the golden era. It's kind of an odd thing to compare Epic Mickey to. Still, the old mickey games where awesome. I still love Castle of Illusions even though it's the weaker one.
Yeah, absolutely awful. Even worse is the fact that some people in Germany have adapted the translation of "epic" and use it all the time because it has become so popular in Englisch... "Das ist so episch." The German word "episch" is by no means anywhere near a colloquial expression, much less than in English, and now every idiot calls every douchy game and movie fucking "epic". IN GERMAN. It's so annoying, DAMN!
Mickey mania was alright, will this be like that? or just another tie-in turd made to go with a direct-to-dvd movie? Every "bro" is using epic too, is like xtreme back in the day
This game leaked online extremely early. Its not bad, a cross between Mario platforming and zelda puzzle solving. The music is pretty amazing and fully orchestrated. The transition story scenes are also beautifully done Alot of time and effort was put into this one. Disney fans should get a big kick out of it. Even though these are some of the best graphics on the wii, the system is really beginning to show its age. Interior "dungeons" look pretty last gen. I found the same problem with Sonic Colors, strong game but on the 360 or ps3 in 720p it would have looked amazing.
I played through the first hour of the game but got a good feel for it. There is one aspect I didn't talk about which is that there are different ways to play the game, you can be good Mickey and turn the enemies into buddies, or be a selfish jerk Mickey. That was a part they hyped in the previews and it is implemented well. The people you help in the game help you in parts of the level that would be harder otherwise. That is pretty interesting. Overall I'd recommend it. The wii has some good releases lately.
You shouldn't be openly admitting or encouraging that you pirated a game. A lot of industry insiders visit/use this forum. So consider this a friendly reminder. ;-)
