I have owned a Super Cassette Vision for about a year and a half, and so far, i own 4 games for it, wich are Astro Wars, Lupin 3rd, Kung Fu Road, and Doraemon.
So far i like the console, the games i currently own are ok, but damn, is it hard to find info on this consoles titles. So i was wondering if someone on this forum who owns this console, could do some short reviews on the games he owns to get an idea on what are the best games for this system, and what to buy next.
By the way i have a question, is Dragon Ball for the SCV too expensive, any idea on what it costs?
Thanks in advance to whoever can help.

I've got a cassettevision also, but haven't been able to get it working on my TV. I don't get channel 1 or have cable ready hookups. Sad sad sad. I need a new TV anyway.

The games I have are Galaxian (which I've heard is pretty good,) Yosaku (a game where you chop down trees and avoid birds) and Pak Pak Monster (pac man.)

  3. Oh wow, I didn't know there was a version of Yo-Sa-Ku for the the Cassettevision. Pretty cool. That was the very first game SNK ever made. In KoF: Battle de Paradise on the Neo Geo Pocket, if you try to play the cartridge in a B&W system, it won't work, but you do get to play a version of Yo-Sa-Ku. I actually liked it quite a bit. In addition to trees and birds, there's also boars. Whoo!

    scv

Actually, mine is a Super Cassette Vision, not the Cassette Vision, wich was its predecesor. SCV is similar to the Famicom, CV is more like the 2600.
Hawanja, i think you need to put your tv between channel 90 to 99, and you will get an image, i think its 96, but i am not sure. Try it.
By the way guys, what did your Cassette Visions cost you, im planning on getting one.

If anyone is interested in the SCV, here are some links were you can get some info on this console:
    http://homepage3.nifty.com/doritomo/game/Scv/SCV-3.htm
Its in japanese, but at least you can se the screenshots by clicking on the games title.
    http://freeemulation.free.fr/histoire.htm
It is in french. They were working on an emulator wich never came to be. They have some cool scans though.

Reviews and screens, again, in japanese, buh.
If some one else has some SCV links, i would really apreciate if he posted them.

This is fascinating stuff! I didn't even know about this console up until now.
Based on the screenshots, it seems like this console was able to replicate many of the early to mid 1980's coin-op games rather well.

Yeah, its a shame it didnt get much support, but it was battling the Famicom after all.
The Galaxian clone called Battle in Galaxy is pretty good, the enemies move very fast, and have more complex patterns than Galaxian.
Lupin the 3rd, is similar to Pitfall, but on this one, the screen scrolls, and there is more stuff hapening on screen, the game is funny and fun.
Kung Fu Road is a clone of Kung Fu (Spartan X), but there are more enemies on screen and more stuff hapening, like a bull who comes running at you, and the ability to make your character jump to the roof of the houses in the background. Unfotunatly, sprites animation is kinda schoppy, when compared to Kung Fu.
Doraemon features fantastic sprites for its time, but simplistic backgrounds.
This console seem to be on the Famicoms level of power, sure, by looking at the most of the games it has, people may think otherwise, but lets remember that back in 84, 85, the FC also had mostly ports of games like Donkey Kong, Galaxian, etc, there was no Super Mario Bros, or Contra, yet.
The console seems to be similar to the Atari 7800, in that it was designed to move lots of sprites on a single screen, as oposed to ghe Famicoms focuse on scrolling. Another similarity with the 7800, is that the SCV also has a pretty ancient soun chip, but still, judging from the games, the SCV seems to be more powerful than the 7800, and the joystics are way better, and get this, it has RGB support!!!

That Star Speeder into the screen one looks cool as hell....like a well early F-Zero X.

I bought mine from a guy who used to sell japanese stuff on a mexican bidding web site. The console costed me 80 dollars, boxed and with one game, Astro Wars. The 3 other games that i have, costed me 35 dollars each. The problem is that i lost contact with the seller a few months back, pretty nice fella he is.
I think Yakumo was selling one on this forum awhile back, i think it was bought by Hawanja.
The games that i really want for it are Wai Wai Monster Land (seems to be the best game for the SCV) and the Dragon Ball game, but apparently, this are the rarest games for the system; Star Speeder looks really cool also.
