So my PSX works when it wants to, and my PS2 simply doesn't work. I don't want my games to languish unused, so I go and download some software for the PC that can let me run my PSX games. I got one that works, yeah, but I sort of feel frustrated when it comes to EPSXE - since I think I have a pretty decent machine, but it still doesn't run correctly. Ever. I'd love to use this emulator because it has options like smoothing and whatnot, that might make my games look great on the PC. So anyway, here's my machine's details Athlon 64 3000+, 1024 MB Ram, 256 MB Nvidia GeForce 5700FX (120 GB HD, even if that's not a factor) I use the latest version of Pete's Open GL (1.57), EPSXE SPU Core for sound, as recommended by the people on the site. No matter if I auto set it on Smooth or Nice, it still runs at like 6 fps. I've seen some of you guys use this emulator - so, if anyone has the time, could you please show me your configurations or direct me to some plugins that make the emulator actually run? Thanks in Advance
I can show you mine once I get home. I have a far inferior machine (2.4 ghz Pentium 4, 256 RAM, GeForce 5200 FX) and I manage to get pretty smooth gameplay out of it. For some reason, though, the game (doesn't matter what I'm playing) "skips" every minute or so. It's quick and usually doesn't mess anything up, but it's annoying.
Thanks, Taemos! Update - I updated Pete's plugins to version 1.76. Still no improvement. I use a second monitor (a TV) through TV-Out in my card. Might this be an issue as well?
You want to set the FPS limit to 60FPS and "force" it. Its in the advanced video options. I tend to play mine either smoothed or not and it plays at 60fps. I have a slightly slower machine but PSX is easy to emulate with epsxe with a geforce card and pentium 3 cpu as well as 256mb ram. good luck.
I forgot to mention that. It *will* go over unless you set the FPS limit. It took me a good hour to figure out why my games were running at super-speed .
Yes! That framerate force and a CDR plugin change did the trick. Dude, 3D games look almost like PS2 games with this program! (60fps, 1024x768, seriously improved textures and smoothed polygons) Thanks a bunch!
