I have a problem with my windows XP autoupdate] It won`t let me switch it on I checked the following from the M/S site but it won`t stay on Any ideas/suggestions? RESOLUTION loadTOCNode(1, 'resolution');To resolve this problem, follow these steps to enable the Automatic Updates service: 1.Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.2.In the right pane, double-click Automatic Updates.3.Click the Log On tab.4.In the You can enable or disable this service for the hardware profiles listed below box, click the current hardware profile, and then click Enable.5.Click Apply, and then click the General tab.6.Click Start, and then click OK.
Some malware programs will disable it, have you scanned with Ad-Aware/Spybot/Malware Bytes recently? All free.
I have AVG8 Will try and dopwnload these and have a go Also I was getting IASTOR.SYS - missing So is there something terminal and a need to re-install everything?
Iastore.sys is a component of Intel storage manager, it shouldn't be mission-critical but you might want to check your motherboard drivers. I can't see how this would affect your being able to enable Automatic Updates, though. When you look at the Automatic Updates properties in Services, does it say startup is automatic or manual? It should be set to automatic.
Well I have downloaded all three......ad aware/spybot & malware....so will run all three and se how things go Thanks so far Alchy!!
You may also want to check out ccleaner, it's got a registry scanner in it which will look for issues. I've read a lot of criticisms regarding such registry checkers, but in my experience from work they've solved several problems and I've never seen any damage done - and if you're using one it kind of implies that there's a critical problem which needs resolving, so the absolute worst-case scanario (needing to perform a clean install of Windows) is hardly a threat. Ccleaner's worth having for the temp/cache cleaner, anyway.
One thing I've learned from forums is that some people get really uptight about swear words. I don't see what the problem is, myself. Especially for a PC cleaning utility - so it's called Crap Cleaner? Heavens, won't somebody think of the children...
If you are still having these problems I may be able to help you some. Is your computer a custom built or a retail model?
