Hi guys, I would like a little help for a recent problem I have. I've decided to update my trusty xbox1 (1.6/40GB IDE/Evox) to the latest release of xmbc4xbox but forgot to take some precautions. These are steps I've made: - Downloaded it (duh); - Transfered via ftp from my netbook to it ( here was the problem, I usually did this while xbox was idle and renamed the default.xbe on the file manager app to other name and replaces it with the newer one. This time, somehow I forgot to rename and simply accepted that the ftpzilla replaced thu it. To make it worse, obviously, after finishing tranfering it, I've rebooted the xbox, only to see a black screen. Now, what do I do to recover my lovely box? I remember that I've kept the HDD unlocked, but I don't know if it makes any difference. I've tried running a game via dvd drive but no luck. Any help will be highly appreciated.
Download something like the Slayer's X disc that has a FTP server built in. FTP in, change dash name, problem solved.
Sounds like he's softmodded to me.... Booting from DVD is not working, the only thing you can do is hotswap or just use XBOX HDM and use the NDURE script. You'll just want to rebuild your C partition, your saves will still be there. This why I never use XBMC as a default dash, it's just stupid. Use UnleashX (doesn't have any boot problems like, EvoX or XBMC) and install XBMC as an app, so it's easier to update.
Softmod with an unlocked HDD? You better have an EEPROM backup, so you can relock it (e.g. using XBOXHDM), otherwise your best option would be to buy a chip. Mind whupping up a short walkthrough for that? I happen to have a similar problem, it looks like XBOXHDM/NDURE wiped all of C and then only copied back some exploit files, but not the rest of the dash. I just use one of those forwarder/launcher xbes. I copy over a fresh xbmc into a new directory, test it, and then - and only then! - replace that forwarder with one pointing to the new version. Haven't run into any problems with that so far.
Actually missed that he said the HDD was unlocked, but he sounds unsure of it. So maybe it was locked before this happened, otherwise his XBOX would get an error. I don't have another HDD to do that sadly... Sounds like you missed copying everything through the script setup process. Without knowing what you've pressed it's hard for me to tell you what you did wrong.
can i ask how it was softmodded in the first place, my xbox boots a backup dash if started with the eject button
My xbox is modded, evox if I recall. Bought that way and have only been updating the xbmc directory ever since. I've never locked the HDD before, so I believe it's unlocked. @APE: Thx, I'll try that. @HEX1G0N: Ok, will read about the XBOXHDM. @rso: Don't have that backup, at least never did one If I use an usb to ide adapter and plug the HDD on it, can I copy the missing file on it?
