The Escape From City 17 short film series is an adaptation based on the Half Life computer game saga by Valve Corporation. Originally envisioned as a project to test out numerous post production techniques, as well as a spec commercial, it ballooned into a multi part series. Filmed guerilla style with no money, no time, no crew, no script, the first two episodes were made from beginning to end on a budget of $500. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1UPMEmCqZo It's amazing how people can do this with $500, and hollywood with tons of money only does crap. PS: Found it at http://www.ggmania.com/?smsid=26624
The budgets impressive but I suspect they're technically filming illegal (something Hollywood can't do) they're all working for free (something Hollywood can't do because people usually work for money) so I don't really find this an impressive number compared to anything else made indie (games or movies). It's a great looking piece don't get me wrong.
Nice, maybe valve should give them a hand since this is some of the best game-related content you can get from fans. BTW it seems these guys work in advertising, and that means they have access to a whole bunch of stuff amateurs dont.
Exactly; they just made this out of fun (or for pitching/promoting themselves). So ofcource they don't calculate their hours; so the $500,- budget is not realistic. The 'movie' looks good; acting mmm'average.
For some reason the HD version has framerate hiccups on my computer, though I could swear I've watched Youtube videos in HD before that didn't. Did this happen to anyone else?
