It's just the format. I don't know what's really good for recovery because I never had to do it, but it is important to save the data in the right format or it would be useless. Best thing to do, is to be able to access the executable and to open it up. I believe CloneCD's anti-DRM functionality refers to the implementations for PCs. The DRM implementations for the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 do not affect readability of the disc by any 3rd party devices.
Yeah. I'll try DVDisaster on this disc and see what happens. Since the seller was able to take a screenshot of the files I suppose it's not long since it did run on a PC... It'd be too bullshit if it dropped dead on it's two week travel to Norway.... But, there should be a forum dedicated to finding the best method for each specific case, or at least for PS1, PS2 and damaged discs.
With about 800 bad sectors, that is 1.56MB of data lost from the inner part of the disc, which is quite a lot. The game may not be functional because of that. If booting the game does not work and you're interested in finding out what it is, you may be better off opening the SLES file with a hex editor and scrolling through it to find strings that may give away the identity of the game. (personally, I would just open up the file in a hex editor since 1.56MB on the inner track might already have eaten up part of the executable).
YOU JUST HAD TO JINX IT, DIDN'T YOU! Well, I'm still hoping to dump it, but it looks kinda dark. Using PCSX2 boots the disc up, starts the PS2 logo and bugs out. That's it. :/
You can't get a complete dump since part of the data area has been destroyed (you can even see through it). So you may want to save all your attempts, just in case the disc only gets worse in condition as you work on it.
Yeah. Dang it. I got it for cheap tho. I don't know how to hex through this. But here's the ISO if you want to take a crack at it.
It is some sort of Eyetoy tech demo/early version of a clay duck shooting game made by these guys https://www.bigben-interactive.co.uk
Yeah, haven't had the time to try and run anything on either hardware or emulator. Of course you never know if there is data left in there from another game that tricks you, but since the data directory also includes a folder called "duckshot" I think it is at least quite plausible. I wonder if this game ever became released.
The executable can still be loaded into a disassembler and it does contain debugging information. The game has a lot of strings that mention "Unity". Curiously, the game has a variable named "PRODUCT_MODEL_NO" that is set to "SLES-52640". That is a game that was made by this company as well. The string seems to be used for generating the folder name for the memory card save. "eyetoygame" can be seen throughout the game, so maybe that was really its name lol. It might be a shooting game indeed. There are strings like "Clay Pigeon Blast" and "Clay Shoot".
Wow! How interesting! Thanks so much for the information. It would great if we got some unseen material here.
If I remember correctly one of the output paths had something like "first_eyetoygame" or something like that in it. I got the impression that this was more of an internal tech demo of the Eyetoy. I must have jinxed it when I mentioned it earlier It is cool that it seems to be something unreleased though
