Have never seen a 1GHz upgrade, aren't they usually 1.4GHz?

Depends. The 1.4GHz involves an adapter board because the packaging is different. The 1.4GHz mod uses the Tualatin CPU and it only comes in a "desktop" package. I know as I have a 1.4GHz console. The Xbox CPU is in a "mobile" package that is smaller and the Coppermine used here comes in that mobile package. This 1GHz mod is almost a direct drop in replacement once a few pins are rerouted.

The base board before modding was a Pal retail one. After the Tsop is flashed with the Xecuter2 the game region in theorie still is for pal games but thanks to the xecuter 2 it's region free. The Video region can be switched with the "enigmah NTSC-PAL video mode switchdisc". I allways switch it to the regional standard of the buyer before i ship it.

Can games take advantage of 1GHz and 128 MB? Or is it just for XBMC? I'm almost sure games won't see the extra RAM but I don't know about the CPU.

Yes some games take "advantage" of the 1ghz cpu. But thats not what you want as they run faster at about 136% of there original Speed.
Some games totally refuse to run and others are properly programmed to run at the same speed whatever cpu is installed.
You can patch the games with the 1ghz patcher thats out on the internet. After patching all of the games should run like on a retail xbox.
The 1ghz modification is of more advantage if you use emulators, Linux or the XBMC on it. And the 128mb of Ram is great if you want to run Debug games, big roms on emulators or chihiro Games.
If you only want to play retail games and unmodified xbox (meaning 64mb of Ram and 733mhz cpu) would be better.
