Man they are sure milking this series, ten years on and still pumping out the goods. BTW it's expensive. Very. http://www.chara-ani.com/ditails.asp?prdid=K52508033
Those kind of look shopped. Slightly O-T, I don't know why people love Evangelion so much. I think its kind of a dumb series. I guess never giving the series a "true" ending, and selling rehashes of the DVDs with litterally 2 or 3 more minutes of USELESS content will make Anno a billionaire. X(
So about $550 or so, mmm thats abit high, and btw Mr. Casual, those were only 4 eps on 2 dvds, the new series of dvds is remastered and 5.1 sound, in japan is Progressive Encoded, but here in the us is not.
Anno is making all the money he can off of the series, though, and putting the series out AGAIN right after the DVD set was a little too soon, IMO. If he wants to make something good, he should make an Evangelion game similar to Lone Wolf. In and out of the "Mech" point of view. And you have a "Depress" meter, and everytime you destroy a building it goes up, and when its full you freak out and go into a coma while the Evangelion beserks. Sounds cool!
Hideo who? And there were actually endings given to the series - two, in fact. It's up to the viewers which one they like. Although, I do agree that the sheer amount of re-releases is pretty ridiculous, but then again, I think Japan has gotten twice as many as we've had here, and as long as the fanboys keep buying things, Gainax will keep making them. Does anyone remember those amazingly priced Eva iPods or G-Shock watches that were like $400 a pop?
Evangelion is just another one of those over hyped series. I've watched them all on TV about 6 years ago and really couldn't understand why it was so popular. The Story line is pathetic really and most episodes are just like Dragonball by which I mean they have a bit of a story, fight, another little bit of story oh and then fight, then another bit of story, then fight, then anoth........ I'm sure you see what I'm getting at here. Yakumo
Hideo Kojima, the director or creator of EVA. And yes, I've seen both endings. And they suck. They are WAY too vague and confusing.
What the hell are you smoking? the creator is Hideaki Anno. Hideo Kojima is the creator of metal gear.
I liked the series, though I had to watch it a few times over to get what exactly was going on. And the two endings were kinda wank, but I don't know how you're supposed to end a series like that. And if Shinji was a real person, I would have to punch him in the face for being such a wuss bag... I think the manga is just an excuse to have more nudity, though.
The Japanese love misery, and the tv series which was quite lovely all of the sudden takes a seppuku turn and goes all apeshit. So of course they love it. It's like drama shows. Misery, misery, uncomfortable and awkward moments, some finger touching, misery, and then all of the sudden they are together for life.
No one was really together for life at the end of that show. But both endings are too vague to know 1/100 of what is going on.
Hey, it's not just ANY walkman, that's an SDAT (super digital audio tape, the analog equivalent of SACD) he's got there! And yeah, Evangelion is one of those shows that if you don't get it, you'll most definately hate it - then again, 50% of the people who do get it hate it anyways. Sadly, one of the best resources for understanding what the hell was going on was never released to English audiences. The so-called 'Book Of The Red Cross', which was sold at the theatrical premier of End Of Evangelion, is a sort of mini-encyclopedia of all the people and events in the series, and really helps make some things clearer. I think, with a little Googling, there is a translation to English that can be found online. Another good resource is the Evangelion Wikipedia page, particularly the glossary of terms. Please note that you should never read Wikipedia if you are bored or easily distracted, as you'll start reading about Evangelion, and then find yourself five hours later reading about the Palestinian terrorist attacks on the Munich Olympics, and all you really remember is that you browsed through articles on the coelacanth, Jonestown, and extinct flightless birds on the way there. As just a disclaimer, I'm not one of those raving Evangelion fanboys like you sometimes meet who consider the series to be the best of all ever, but I must admit that it has a rather original premise ("Hey! Let's mix giant robots and screwy bits of Judeo-Christian mythology with weird, hobo-like ramblings on the true definition of self!") which I found to be rather engaging and indeed enjoyable, once I figured out what it all meant.
I'm with GSL on this one. The series has its deepness but you have to read into it, so to say. It took me two complete viewings to understand many things, and every time I see it complete, I find out new details. I'm not a raging fanboy either, but I used to really love it when I was in High School.
From the Mouth of: I've got one of those! Hey I used to be one of those! ~Krelian P.S.: And while more on the subject - wasn't there also a crazy rare/over-priced "Evangelion iPod" that had nothing more than a NERV laser-etching on the back?
It also had the nerv logo ont he background of the screen, is a 20gig ipod photo "no such thing, so it's special since the smalles ipod photo is 40gigs" and i beleave it also included all the sound tracks.
