I used to be a bit of a compulsive liar as a kid, and I remember telling my brother about this "awesome game" I saw in a magazine. At the time, we had a PS1, and since the Pokemon craze was still fresh at the time, I guess we were a little jealous of people with N64s and Pokemon Stadium and whatnot (for whatever reason).

Anyway, one day I felt like being the "bearer of awesome news," so I told my brother that I saw a magazine ad for "Pikachu's Adventure." I said that it was a Pokemon game for PS1 where you played as Pikachu, and that you went around doing quests for other Pokemon. He believed it at the time, since neither one of us realized how absurd it would be for a Pokemon title to be released on a Sony platform. Anyway, he called me out on the lie not too long after. Now that I think back on it, it would have been a pretty awful concept for a game anyway.

Other than that, some kid at school (who was an even bigger compulsive liar than myself), was telling me and my friend that his cousin worked as a game tester. He said he'd played every game ever, and we didn't believe him (obviously). So, I asked him if he'd played "Banjo Kazooie Star," and he's like, "Yeah!!" So then I tell him, "Dude, I made that up... It's not even a real game." So he says, "Yes it is!!" In a strange turn of events, he continued to defend the existence of a game I made up during a split-second brainstorm.

15 years later, Pokemon Black has been released - bitches ^^

Never did but I recall a spaz kid who would claim seeing/finding the most amazing things in various games and he would swear to his death it happened. Guess it was just for attention.

I was quite the troll when I was a kid. I thought about secrets that didn't exist and people tried and tried and tried to do it. when someone actually did complete the task and they were all like "why isn't the secret something coming up?" -"Oh you've probably haven't met the other condition I haven't mentioned, because I just remembered I had over XX of something when the secret popped up". Yeah, I used to be a dickhead much.

Oh yeah, I did it just for the lolz to see how many people could I trick :D

^That actually reminds me of another friend I had in Saskatoon who told me that his hometown was bombed, and that his parents had to dig him out of the rubble.

I asked his mother about it one night when they had me over for supper, and she just looked at him like he was an idiot.

When Left 4 Dead came out, I swore to people that it was a sequel. Left Dead, Left 2 Die: Left Dead 2, Left 3 Dead were all other PC titles. A lot believed me. lol

I dont think i ever made something up myself but, the primary school I went to got hit by the Street Fighter 2 craze pretty hard (I now feel so ancient), and for resons that I could not even begin to understand every single kid claimed to have information about some kind of hidden character. A couple that where the hight of crazy where:

A vampire charecter that you fight in a pitch black stage with a spotlight on your character. All you could see of them was thier red eyes (I so badly wanted this to be true because it sounded awesome when I was a kid)

Some kind of under water merman/fish thingy (everyone had a different version), your would fight underwater and would have scuba gear on.

An evil clone of your self with red eyes.

Looking back they where so, so, so stupid but at the time the average kid wasnt good enough to even get up to M.Bison so for all we knew there where another 10 or more bossess to beat.

Man kids at my school were nuts.

This reminds me of all the secrets people would make up such as in Pokemon how to find Mew. One of the infamous ones involved a truck by the SS Ann ship. Other popular rumors were things like Mortal Kombat and being able to see the female characters nude with some secret finishing move. I recall hearing rumors that in Mega Man X you could unlock boss powers from the original 6 Mega Man games.

^Yeah, I recall the Mew rumor. I'm pretty sure I saw that printed in a magazine somewhere, but I'm not sure if it was debunking the myth or claiming that it was true.

The actual way to catch Mew is more interesting. Triggering some sort of bug allowing you to potentially encounter almost any Pokemon.

Sort of. In early 1996 I got my first computer and multimedia being huge at the time it came bundled with a shitload of crapware, including some vague "arcade" game CDROMs, which IIRC had things like Microsoft golf simulator or something. Well I fibbed to friends that my computer could play real arcade games too. A year later I'd discover emulation. Huh. In 1999 I got a powerhouse Pentium III with DVD ROM in anticipation of emulating the PS2, I might have told some people that it could pull it off. I was an order of magnitude off.

I've been lied to a bunch, like an elementary school friend insisting he played a N64 DBZ game in Hong Kong. He got seriously offended when I called him out on it, he's like "you don't understand, HONG KONG ONLY, not JAPAN!". I followed game mags so I knew it wasn't true, but it was harder than you'd think to prove on the internet in 1997.

& Oh yes, the MKII "nudality" myth. Older cousin insisted it was real; he lived by an arcade and had about 100 NES games, who was I to question? There were tons of MK hoax screenshots on the WWW too...

There's also the Killer Instinct uncensored Orchid flash.

And the SNES MK blood code/Game Genie cheat. I tried every single one of them. At best they marginally altered the "sweat" palette. Someone seriously needs to re-port MK to SNES intact.

One high school friend I'd shoot the shit with about import games told me the "Neo Geo Gold" ie CD was so powerful, it had PS compatibility too. I don't think I fell for that one, maybe.

I also tried the Pokemon glitches, but quickly lost interest when a friend with a Game Genie/Shark just gave me a Mew.

Fast forward 7 years to 2006 around the Wii launch some idiots in a *college computer lab*, were talking shit about Zelda, Metroid and other Nintendo franchises coming soon to PSP [wtf?]. When challenged they retorted with something like "Hah! Well Mega Man is already on PSP!" [smh]

Me and my brothers once made up a game for the Genesis/ Megadrive way back in 2003. It was titled "Super Sonic Fart Special".

Let your imagination run wild and it will still be a massive understatement of the shit we thought up...

My friend and I once came up with a fake puzzle game, somewhat akin to Puyo Puyo. The idea was to make it as complicated and annoying as possible, impossible to beat, and loaded with bugs and glitches. We wrote a script for a commercial about it, and we intended to make an animated video about it. Unfortunately it never came to be, and I lost the script.

Oh yeah, and there's also DJ Baseball '99

I also intended to make this into a commercial, and this would've been only part of it. But I never finished it. I may go back and complete it one day.
