Hello everyone,

Just got a new everdrive from the Brazilian everdrive reseller.
I've formatted my Sd card as Fat32 on the windows disk manager, copied roms to card and turned on the everdrive.
The cartridge loaded fine and listed the games as expected.
But I tried to load Sonic 2 for testing purposes and it made my everdrive freeze.
After that, I've reformatted the sd card as fat16 and tried again but with no success.
After trying another games, I realized that roms with less than 512KB loads successfully, the problem occurs only with roms with size >= 512K

My console is a mega drive from Brazilian shitty company TecToy.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm not at home right now, in the next few hours I'll reply the firmware version to you.
What I can certainly say is that my OS version is v33.
And just FYI the error is almost the same of this video, except that mine freezes a lot earlier (like I said it will freeze only if the rom has >= 512), so depending of the rom size it will freeze earlier or later at the loading screen.

I believe it may have something to do with the TecToy based Megadrive.
They seem to have small differences in operations that may affect operation of the EDMD.

I thought my crappy MD system could be responsible for that too, but then I was thinking: Won't the flashing process goes all inside the cartridge?

Krizz, my firmware version is 14.

Sometimes need to enable genny3 mode in case if you use cart with old firmware, but new carts does not have such problem. If your cart is new one, then it looks like some physical defect, may be cart was damaged while shipping, in this case you should send your cart to me for repair. Also you may try to use another sd card.
I did never test my cart with tectoy systems, but i did not hear any reports about problem with their systems, so i think that problem not in console itself

Ok, firm 14 is the newest one. Genesis CPU doing all data transferring from SD to flash, so, problem can be in system also, but looks like it is not your case.
There is 3 possible reasons of problem:
1)Damaged cart. (it is the most possible reason)
2)Incompatibility with sd card
3)Some problems with console

Ok so I'm using a SD/MicroSD adapter and I tried with 2 SD cards: first one formatted with fat32 and another formatted fat16: both will freeze during the flash process. I think I'll talk to the reseller so they can send it back to you and send a new one.

Try another SD first. I had the same problem and it was my cheap Chinese ripoff 2GB Sandisk micro SD card. Got a real Sandisk model and it works now.

I say try one more because 2 failed SD cards can be possible. But 3 in a row is rather unlikely even for the picky EDMD models.

I just tried with another SD card (this time a real SD, not a adapter), a 256MB FAT formatted with 32KB sectorsized, and the problem still persists. So I think this possibility is discarded. One thing I forgot to mention is that my TecToy system is a modified version of original Genesis console, where are 30 games that already comes in the console, and the motherboard is very different from the original: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-o7sij0XXVS0/TyiQWtO9rXI/AAAAAAAABUc/nZIXxB4MsXY/s640/DSC03950.JPG

I have firmware 13 on my Everdrive, and I have to use Genesis 3 mode all the time, even with all my model 1's or model 2's.

I have OS 35 and firmware 14 on my unit. I don't even need Genny 3 mode on my Genesis 3 or Nomad like the first editions needed. As Krikzz said, he seems to have improved the firmware to not need it for the most part.

well, you have two ways:
1) Send your cart to me for check/repair
2) Try another console

Well, I just tried another console and........ *drum roll* IT WORKS! Just tested with Sonic & Knuckles and Joe & Mac and the rom was loaded sucessfully. I used a model 1 Tectoy (based on Genesis M1). So MAYBE the Everdrive MD is not compatible with Super Mega Drive 3 w/ 30 games from Tectoy, or the console itself was damaged. Thanks for anyone who tried to help me and especially thanks Krikzz!

In English: To sum things up, his MegaDrive is probably one of the later versions, called Mega Drive 3 instead of Mega Drive III. That's when Tectoy started modifiying the board to add games on internal memory, but also killing Sega CD and 32X support. I guess this modified board doesn't like / work with the Everdrive. To be safe, the good Tectoy models are the Mega Drive and Mega Drive II (original design) and the Mega Drive III (smaller design) sold up to 1996. After that, sadly, Tectoy decided to lower their quality standards.
