Just got an Everdrive MD for the Holidays. Having one issue, cannot get it to play any 32x rom from Goodset3 Regular Gen/MD/SMS roms work fine. I have the following hardware: Everdrive MD FW: 13, OS 29, 4Gb SDHC Gen Mdl 2 (US) Sega CD Mdl 2 (US) va1.8 motherboard 32x (US) No mods(50/60, region) or anything on the 32X/Gen/CD combo. I have no issues with regular Genesis or 32x carts or Sega CD's working on this setup. I can only load a 32x rom into the ED when the 32x is removed(can't do it when it's connected), then I reinstall the 32x onto the Gen. The ED will boot to the menu but won't play rom when selected from menu. I've tried enabling disabling the hard reset, gen3, megakey, autosave etc.... to no success. I'm kinda stumped at this point.
Do Genesis roms work on the ED while it is inserted in the 32x? Are you on the latest OS version? What you're describing is I think how Krikzz initially had 32X working, where you had to load the game on the Genesis, then attach the 32X and run it, but that was fixes very early on. Also, did you try Krikzz's 32X-to-bin converter on your .32X roms?
I use TOSEC romset for 32x without any problem. If you have a megadrive (US) + 32x (US), the roms must be only US region
Ok, here's an update: The Everdrive works fine playing Genesis and SMS games when just using the Genesis, or using the Genesis and Sega CD together. But when I hook the 32x up to just the Genesis or the Genesis + Sega CD combo, it will boot to the menu, but will not play a 32x or Genesis ROM. Understood that the SMS roms will not work with the 32x hooked up. Ok, so I opened the 32x up and redid the 2 ribbon cables. I also noticed that on the upper circuit board(the one with the power and a/v connectors)a resistor(factory fix) tied to cart pin A27 (signal D10) had lifted the pad right off the circuit board by the ribbon cable. So I soldered a wire into place directly to the underside of cart pin A27 to the Resistor and a red wire that goes down into the lower portion of the 32x(part that is the cart slot to insert into the Genesis). Doing that fixed the brightness level, it made it better, however I also noticed that same signal on pin A27 looks like it connects to a pin on one of the black sockets for one of the white ribbon cables. Upon closer look, the trace wire right at the bottom of the ribbon connector looks fried. I used multimeter to check continuity from the socket pin to the exposed part just above the socket on the ribbon cable. Can someone verify for me if Cart pin A27(D10) must be tied to the pin on the one ribbon cable socket? or is pin A27(D10) not connected to that socket for a reason? I just don't know for sure without having another 32x to test against.
Another point to add to above: My 32x plays real 32x and Genesis carts just fine, just not when the Everdrive is in the 32x will it play any roms. But the Everdrive will play roms ok if i remove the 32x and just use the Genesis or Gen+SCD. But I think I have a 32x wiring issue as noted above, if someone can help?
i think thar cart will not work at all (manu will not be loaded) if something wrong with D10. can you see correct firmware version in device info and reaction on sms button pushing, if cart connected via 32x? also check if options can be changed and saved if cart connected via 32x
ok, further testing done. when i boot up everdrive md on 32x+gen+scd(all US) i get the menu. and can go see the Firmware and all that. When I go to Select game I get: sel error 120. When i try to select play game, using either a 32x or Genesis rom the screen goes black.
So the EverDrive doesn't work properly if the 32X is connected? Have you tried loading a 32X ROM into the EverDrive memory while the 32X is not attached, then attaching it and trying to just use the "play game" option? Also have you tried connecting your 32X but not plugging the power into it and using the video output from the Genesis so that the 32X is just a pass through and seeing if the EverDrive works? Maybe the 32X is generating noise or causing power issues.
