Hi, I have just received my Everdrive MD and have updated to the latest OS. I have tried 3 roms (.gen extension) and the sound on these games is stuttery/juddery. Is this a known issue? Any ideas? Thanks Lee
More testing Hi, I have now tried the only physical cartridge game I own (Sensible Soccer) and the sound appears to be okay. I have tried various BIN files which all appear to have juttery sound with the exception of Aladdin. Could there be a fault with my Megadrive's sound which is only showing up when certain sound frequencies or channels are played (explaining why Aladdin is okay) or could this be a matter of poorly generated ROMS? The manual advises; Certain ROM file formats will not work correctly on the EverDrive-MD. It is highly recommended you use "romsets" that are generated by GoodGen 3 If you do not use the correct "romset" format then the game may not play or may be buggy. What is GoodGen 3 and how can I ensure my ROMS meet this requirement? Many thanks for your help. Lee
it not looks like rom problem. hard to understand what exactly you mean without sound sample, but it can be problem with power supply. you system is original one with original ac adapter?
New power supply Hi, I have now obtained another Mega Drive II power supply from ebay - the result is the same. I am willing to buy another Mega Drive to be sure but before I do that can anyone recommend some ROMS that 100% work on their system? Thanks Lee
Lee, there are a lot of possible hardware combinations that do or don't work with certain games, so it'd be good to be as specific as possible. Most importantly, what's your geographic region, and is your TV system PAL or NTSC? That said, Sonic 1 & 2 should work on anything AFAIK.
More info Hi, I have a PAL Mega Drive 2 with a PAL CRT Television. Cartridge Game that sound work on okay; Sensible Soccer Games ROM that work okay; Sonic, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Micro Machines, Aladdin Games ROMS that sound stops and starts on; Skitchin, Road Rash, II, III, Streets of Rage, II, II Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP II *works* but sounds different to when I used to own the cartridge (and a different Mega Drive!) - the screeching sound of the tyres sounds washed out. This may well be a problem with the Mega Drive, I have read about sound problems due to leaky capacitors - has anyone experienced this and if so did sound stop altogether or did it stutter and stop - start like I am experiencing? I think I may need to get another Mega Drive to sure but it's always a risk with ebay as I may end up with another faulty console! Also, I've been meaning to ask this question - what does the button on the top of the Everdrive actually do?! Is it only there for Game Genie purposes? Cheers Lee
That's the Master System pause button. Needed for backwards compatibility. Few if any full Mega Drive games use it.
This is mostlikely a problem with the capacitors in the console drying out, as you ruled out the powersupply. Original games would draw less current then the everdrive, so they still sound alright. I'm sure if you replace the capacitors your problem would disappear.
