Just putting this here for anyone else who might have the same issue in the future. Tried updating the OS my EverDrive MD PCB Rev 2.5 (which I have learnt is a refined 2.4 unit). I was running OS version 29, wanted to get to 35. Tried flashing on my PAL release day Mega Drive 1 and it threw up, "update error 120". Strange, so I tried an earlier version (OS 31) with no success. Stuck the cart into a Mega Drive 2 and it worked a charm, updated successfully first time. Would this be because of some incompatibility with the Mega Drive 1? I noticed it uses a Signetics SCN68000C8N64 CPU. Sega bailed on Signetics pretty soon after launch didn't they? Anyway, that's the lesson, if it doesn't work jam it into another Mega Drive and cross your fingers! :congratulatory: Thanks again to KRIKzz for the great products! (My Mega EverDrive is working well too :smile-new
A lot of model 1's used the signetics. Usually to VA4. Doubt the issue has to do anything with that. The signetics is the same as the MC68000, don't believe the "rumors".
Sorry what I meant was PAL units didn't right? Forgot the US got theirs a tad before the PAL regions, and Japan, well they invented the damn thing Hahaha, Signetics aren't as overclockable, etc, etc. I like the allure of an older system. I think I might have another Signetics chip in one somewhere, I could give that a test and compare notes I suppose. Enough Mega Drives to sink a house boat... I didn't buy these racing red sockets for nothing :biggrin-new:
I replaced my signetics with a motorola just because "I wanted too". There's zero difference between them, except the package type in my case.
Did you use a red socket though? I should be getting around to it one day soon. Finally finished off adding 50Hz / 60Hz and language switches to one of my Mega Drives. That thing had been sitting there for months. How does life become so complicated so quickly? :grief:
I used my own conjured socket. I also replaced a few other chips and a few other mods as well. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v395/Evilweredragon/photo-2.jpg Socketed RAM (real SRAM not the PSRAM they normally use), socketed YM2612 as I tried some other chips, overclocked, RCA stereo out mods, region mods, etc. And ALL modes work with my everdrive, even in overclock.
About that... It was finally figured out the issue with running in overclock has to do with a certain frequency the EDMD pulls from the Genesis being wrong (Too fast). By running it in Genny 3 mode the EDMD uses an internal generator for that clock signal thus bypassing the problem completely. The signal is for how fast the CPLD copies the data from SD card to the memory chip. Or it is usually referred to as the SD card clock speed. Too fast and... Just saying... EDIT: Forgot to say it was lnx64 who found this out. Sorry for not giving credit...
