Just curious what size card everyone is using and what kind of folder structure you've set up? Have you filled it with the goodroms sets? NoIntro sets sets? SMS / 32x / Genesis all on one card? I am just rying to figure out the best set up. Currently I am using a 4gb fat32 card but I have not decided on how I might set it up.

All you need total is about 1.5GB. Start with the No-Intro sets for Genesis, 32X and SMS. Grab the parent/clone XML from the No-Intro site, then use a rom manager (RomCenter or ClrMamePro) to create a 1G1R set.

1G1R = 1 game 1 rom. What this means is that you won't have multiple ROMs for the same game (i.e. 1 USA, 1 EUR, 1 JPN). You'll have every single game for each system, but only one of each.

Sounds good but I am an idiot with those rom managers. Is one easier / better? Could anyone run through the steps in detail for doing this?

It tough finding good instructions online for the ROM managers. They mainly need some time messing around with them to figure it all out. But for you (aka MaximumRD), give me 30min or so and I'll write up some instructions.

    Here you go!

1 - IMPORTANT!!!! Make a copy of your Genesis, 32x and SMS ROMs!! You'll use these copies to create the new sets. NEVER POINT ROMCENTER TO YOUR MAIN ROM DIRECTORIES!!!! For these instructions, ROMs should be unzipped!!

2 - Download the ZIP file attached to this post (containing all needed DAT files)

3 - Unzip the DATs to a directory on your computer

4 - Download and install ROMCenter from:
    http://wiki.romcenter.com/doku.php?id=getstart:menu#downloading_romcenter

    5 - Start ROMCenter

6 - Select FILE -> PREFERENCES (Or click the icon of the chip with the checkmark)

7a - On the 'Romsets' tab, enable the option 'Keep only one game per set (1G1R)'
7b - On the 'Fix' tab, make sure the following options are ENABLED in the 'Fix Parameters' column and others are DISABLED

    - Rename Files
    - Remove Useless Files
    - Remove Useless roms
    - Rename roms
    - Find missing roms

7c - On the 'Releases' tab, enable 'Use releases' and place the regions in your order of preference.

    EXPLANATION:
This option allows you to control which ROM takes preference when multiple are available. For example, a game might have a USA and JPN version. I have USA as a higher priority than JPN, so the USA ROM will remain and the JPN ROM will be removed. I suggest ordering the regions based on the language(s) you can read.

7d - Once the regions are in the desired order, click 'OK'

8 - File -> New, then select 'Load games list from a datafile'

9 - Select the DAT file for the ROM set you want to work with (you will do one ROM set at a time)

10 - Click 'Create the game database' and click 'save' for the following 'Save As' dialog. This step is simply saving a RomCenter format DAT file to work with.

11 - Once the import is complete, notepad will open outlining the import. Close notepad and return to RomCenter

12 - Choose FILE -> ADD ROM PATH (Or click the icon of the folder with the plus sign)

13 - Select the COPY you made in step 1, containing the ROMs which match the DAT file you imported. It will take a minute or two to complete scanning the ROM directory.

14 - Highlight your ROM directory in the RomCenter interface and click the green wrench icon to build your new ROM set

THAT'S IT!! Your ROM directory will now contain a proper 1G1R set. All deleted files will have been placed in the recycle bin, incase you want to grab them.

Repeat steps 8 through 14 to create other 1G1R sets.

For my rom set, I just got the Genesis No-Intro set, made folder for each letter, a..b..c..
    in a 4GB card :))

I've also included translated roms and 32x.

I don't use SMS games on the Genesis because my sms is right next to it with it's own everdrive.

Wanted to ask, does anybody have a DAT for the Atari 2600 ?

I'll try what goldenegg but I would like to do it for a system that is very hard to verify and have 1G1R.
