Hello Krikzz Have you thought about the possibility to incorporate a microSD slot instead of the traditional full-size SD? It would be very practical and would not require modification of donor cartridges. Greetings
There are people who like the SD card slot, however he lowered the SD card slot to allow the half size RS-MMC cards without modification.
i can bought 2gb rs-mmc in any locall store just for 10-13usd, so they not expensive and not rare. micro sd slot only not good, sd + micro sd just have not sense. rs-mmc your way
For you, but not for the majority of people. Once he puts microSD on there will be many more people asking why he removed regular SD card. He lowered SD card slot to allow for RS-MMC for people who do not want to modify it.
Another option is to use those micro-SDHC to SD adapters. At one point, they were include free with the micro SDHC cards such that I have a bunch of them (7-8).
So, as far as I understand it, the OP didn't want to modify the cartridge. What about (for the next PCB revision, if possible) add pads for both card types. For example, the SD card slot might be turned 90 degrees. That way you can decide later which kind of slot to solder onto the board. In this example, a microSD card will be permanent (not changeable without opening the cart) and a big card will stick out of the cartridge.
Personally I don't need microSD, I think RS-MMC will be enought for me. Previously I was thinking about one SD card for all SNES, SMD and SMS roms but since I have about 200 mb of SMD, SMS roms and about 340 mb of SNES roms I think I'll buy 2 MMC cards.
You need 2GB for SEGA and 2GB for SNES. I have no problem modding the casing, because I don't want to have to open the case every time I need to add something to the card. I've had the NES PowerPak for several years, and I'm often finding new roms to try.
2Gb if you need all roms. I have made smaller selection without sports games, clones and games that I have on original carts. BTW. Is this card will be good for SMD and SNES carts?
Is there a way to move the slot a litte bit down`? So the sd card don't look out of the cardridge. You can make a litte slot (in sd card dimension) to change the card. I am a friend of the authentic look of cartridge thanks
good idea. but you have to use some hot glue to make the new position workable. Another idea is to make two possible positions for a sd slot in a newer pcb revision...
Surprisingly no (You would think some Chinese company would have noticed a gap in the market) Although you can make one:- http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=25185
Until know I didn't know these rs-mmc. Good Hint! My thoughts was ment to make the next revision of the pcbs "more authentic". I saw the poll micro sd/sd for the everdrive 64 and can't understand the people why to use an SD Adapter looking out of the cardridge... Thanks.
