Ever learned the rules of a particular sport from a video game?

    I did.
I learned the rules and basic strategies of the game of golf way back in 1989, thanks to Arnold Palmer's Tournament Golf on the Sega Genesis.

Before that, I always assumed that golf was a game played by the elderly and never understood the intricacies behind it.

Anyone else? Any of you Euro gamers learn the simple joys of BASEBALL by way of a video game?

I learned the basic rules of golf via old PC games and then those on the PS1 back in the mid-90's. I had always assumed golf was boring and even back then i never realised how not boing it can be.

Within the last 10 years though i've began to realise how golf can be fun via video games and i actually learned the proper way to play it rather than when i was younger and just tried to hit the ball as far as possible even if it was in the sand or rough

NESOpen for the NES for my golf training, Tecmo bowl for the football, NES baseball for well...baseball, and double dribble for the basketball.

All of that, and I am not a fan of sports at all...But I like video games :)

I read an article in GQ about the author being on some junket for EA: TWG X? in Hawaii. His "pro" was helping out someone else on the golf course they played on, so he just went for it (knowing it was a par 5) based on how he played the hole through the game EA:TWG.

He got it in three

Not really a true sport, but I learned the basics of Mah Jong from that Xbox Live Arcade game that came out last year (Fun Fun Mahjong or something like that).

Tennis from Virtua Tennis. Golf from Golf on the GameBoy. Soccer - I never learned those retarded rules, but they're useless anyway in the soccer games that I like to play (Pleasure Goal, Sensible Soccer & Goal!Goal!Goal!). :D

Ice Hockey. I only started watching it last year - thanks to internet speed improvements. I have to download all the games I want to watch as they are not shown in the UK.

Played since 1993 and know the sport really well now. The advances in gameplay have been astounding.
