This is meant as a general cliches thread, but I have another more direct question. Why is it that the Church is the enemy in many JRPGs? Or that the enemy is an evil Gnostic God? I've heard that it stemmed from Christian Missionaries "harassing" Japanese people a really long time ago and trying to convert them. I'm sure this trend appears in anime and film over there as well. I was thinking that maybe one of our members who lives in Japan or a Japanese enthusiast (*not an idiot Japan-fan to clarify) would know. *I don't know of many people on this site that I'd call an idiot Japan-fan except for 1 or 2, but it would be rude to call them out on it. Its no one with a high post count, lets just leave it at that.
Now that you mention it, you are damn right : / I wanna know too Your theory sounds interesting, let's see what the board members from japan might say about this :icon_bigg
It's because the Japanese are Godless Heathens and they're all going to HELL!!!!!! BUT I should point out there's alot of anime that makes for Good Biblical Allegory. Trigun is a good one for studies on Moses and Adam and Eve There's Kenshin he's a good allaegory for the apostle Paul alittle abstract but none the less. that's all I an think off off the top of my head.
The TV series Shogun gives you a more correct reason why, and if you don´t believe then you can always read William Adams diary William Adams was the real "anjin-sama/Miura Anjin ". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Adams_(sailor) But you know what ? heck, if I should choose an evil cliche ? I would choose a church too.
Being "really into" religion is F-ed up from most japanese people perspective. They just do not trust religious people. Simple as that. Young people in Japan run a mile from anyone talking about god or religion. So yeah, I would not get offended by it. Being religious is like being mad to mainstream japan. Also religious stuff tends to kick out some great gothic images and OST!
God damn this is so fucking funny. It's even funnier if you imagine Henners himself in the spiderman suit.
That counts me out then. To be honest I'm completely out of my head at the moment after 5 cans of 8% strong Chu-hi so I'm not the best on advice however the Japanese did saluter a lot of Christians back in the day. I'm sure it was in Nagasaki. Yakumo
Thats odd, I alway have heard that religious symbols get pumped into anime and crap just because they think its different and cool. I think thats one reason people think Evangelion is "deep", when, IMO, its rather shallow. EDIT: Oh yeah, GoH, one day I was bored and I was reading Dantes Peaks wiki entry, one thing led to another and I found an interesting story that said that the Japanese are judged by some other guy instead of Paul, while Paul judges people from the West, or something along those lines. Pretty interesting, makes me think there are different guidelines and rules for judging people from the East!
ALittle Odd......I don't where I got Kenshin is Paul from though. But there was that Anime Arc about Chrsitian persecution. You know right around when the anime started to suck.
