lets compile a list of expired console and game patents we know Atari 8-2 switches are patents have expired ( anyone know the file and expire dates? ) we also know the nes snes and genesis patents have expired ( need that on file and expire for each of those too ) game genie's patents expired just this year ( US Patent #5112051, "Interfacing device for a computer games system", filed May 30, 1990. This patent expired on May 30, 2010 ) so what else has had patents expire or are very close to expiring? CONSOLES ATARI: Filed: ??? Expired: ??? NES: Filed: ??? Expired: ??? GENESIS: Filed: ??? Expired: ??? SNES: Filed: ??? Expired: ??? CHEAT DEVICES GAME GENIE: Filed: May 30, 1990 Expired: May 30, 2010 US Patent #5112051 http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=5112051.PN.&OS=PN/5112051&RS=PN/5112051
i am a little interested as well. Whats the point in making a list? What use does it have knowing them?
Possibly dealing with making legal emulation or legal reproduction of an outdated system without having to go to a company to get permission and pay royalty fees?
BINGO diy consoles NOT this SOC crap ive always wanted to see a bred Bord gaming console xD but at the same time making true system mods to say add hard drives or all in one SD or USB carts also it would be fun to keep a running tally of what of the gaming history is in the public domain i have always wondered about all this stuff and how long something was being worked on before marketed
Good luck cloning a console on a breadboard.... The NES APU and PPU would only take 200 74 series chips Patents are not stopping you from interfacing hard drives or make SD/"USB" carts, because the only enforceable cartridge patents will be on the specific mold design.
i never said anything about rebuilding the chips on a bread Bord i mean more of taking fresh chips and socketing them into the bread Bord actually interfacing or using similar components in the same type of device can be infringing technically its a new invention but taking chances can be messy with the big N sega dont give a rats ass because they like that they are loved so much keeps them popular to be nice to users im also very fascinated and very curios on how the technology of consoles and gaming has evolved why not have a one stop spot for all the inventions related to gaming
Because there are THOUSANDS of game patents, most are really ridiculous too. The best ones describe circuitry but those are few and far between. Maybe those could be collected as they're sometimes useful. You mean mixing various LSI on a breadboard?
i mean substituting the green or brown Bord with a bread Bord all the chips the cpu the apu the gpu the sound chip the capacitors everything that connects to to mainbord would be connected to a bread Bord possibly several bread bords those are the patents im interested in like the one i posted basically describing the game genie just the basic patents also im sure there is a whole patent covering the entire console because technically thats a new invention
