The Master System was more powerful and the games were cheaper.

Also plastic cases instead of cardboard!

I has a NES at the time because the games were better.

I wouldn't say that is true, the more powerful comment. The systems are different but neither is better in every way.

For example, the SMS supports more colors per tile than the NES. But the NES connects the PPU memory bus to the cartridge allowing for instant access to as much graphical data as you can afford to put in a cartridge. The SMS can't flip sprites in hardware while the NES can. The SMS can flip background tiles in hardware but the NES can't. The NES may have slightly more advanced sound hardware, although the SMS with the FM sound upgrade is a different story if the game supports it. Then again the Famicom allowed in cartridge sound upgrades too like the VRC7 in Lagrange Point.

Master System games were prettier than NES games but they always seemed to run slower.

Did Brazil ever get an FM version of the Master System? I know Europe and Japan got one, while the US didn't (though you could do it yourself if you want).
