A few weeks ago I made the mistake of trying to update the drivers for my HP Pavilion DV7-3300's JMicron SD/MMC/MS/xD card reader which initially failed half-way through but I ran the installer a second time and everything was just peachy, at least as far as Device Manager was concerned. 1) The slot doesn't have an icon or anything remotely related to it in My Computer. 2)No sound is made when a card is inserted or ejected. 3)The usual icon for "safely removing hardware" doesn't come up in the little icon holding cell (whatever the bloody thing is called) when a card is inserted. 4)When using "Disk Management" the slot doesn't appear as a listing at all, though Daemon Tool's virtual BD-ROM does. 5)I've tried removing the four devices (one for each type of media) from the Device manager, rebooting and letting it reinstall. Nadda. 6)I've also done the above but cleaned the system of drivers and fed it both the latest and various older versions. Also zilch. Either something is screwed up within Windows 7 (possible given I can't install SP1 for what the installer says is an "unknown" error) or there is a fifth device I'm not aware of that has bad drivers. Maybe it's whatever the odd looking IDE controller is? The laptop is 100% SATA as far as I know. Any thoughts? Anyone? I'll even take input on your senile grandfather who thinks Reagen is still president at this point.
Any support for that device in linux? Would be worth just booting up a live distro to see what it sees.
