I got a few machines from an ex developer and two of the N64s have and extra cable on the bottom. What's it for? Does it attach to a Wideboy? http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2435/3745086961_7a5b8c7c5b.jpg?v=1248256355 /frax
AFAIK there wouldn't be any need for any extra cables for the Wideboy. I don't remember connecting any extra cables from the N64 when using any of my wideboy's. What I would do is to just open up the N64 and see what it is connected to. Looks like they have a few own wires inside that heat shrink wire... Come back with pictures :=) Shiggsy
if it was used by dev, expect it to end in an RS-232-like serial, DB9 connector. As you might have guessed, those things are used for real-time debugging although there's bound to be some extra hardware to sniff things up in there if that's the case. PS: just noticed the male mini-jack connector. Beats me. Maybe someone's idea at digital audio or something? quick, someone call Calpis.
Since it's a stereo connector, ASSEMbler's idea might be correct about it being used for audio in a kiosk unit. Odd though that they wouldn't just use a left / right composite to stereo 1/8" jack converter. That makes me believe that if it was a kiosk unit console, that's actual for a reset button. Turn the console on and try shorting the rings on the connector together to see if the console resets.
just because a standard is often used for something doesn't mean it can't be used for an entirely different purpose. If it was audio they wanted the multi-out should suffice..which makes guessing hard. I d love to know what it does though
