So I wanted to see the real benefit of 4+ gb of ram.

On 4gb of ram I opened 120 ebay search result pages at once for total of 3.8gb or ram used. I usually open 30 at a time.

If you were to write an ebay search engine of your own, you'll need
    the gigs of ram.

Very impressed I could open 120+ tabs in firefox with no crashing.

I have ebay load as text only but it still uses heaps of ram.

Impressive. I find that I rarely go over 4GB of ram during normal use. I'll max out my 16GB if i've got some VMs on though.

I crawl ebay for items so I may invest in another 4gb and try to run it all at once.

Neat test. I use VM's a lot so memory is something I could use more of for sure.

If you use PHP or Perl or some scripting language this should bypass the need for RAm altogether. You will need bandwidth, patience, and of course, tweak your code when they make changes. Maybe the RAM is a better deal.

If I was that good I would have money to just buy stuff outright lol.

No, my search is bloated, slow.

    Works though.

Ouch! Man, that's painful. I'm into scraping... tabs are my enemy.

If I had much RAM, i would have created my own search engine index using Yacy.
