Well, the long awaited update is here, and it is a interesting one. The two big additions are the downloadable Xbox games (Biggest one), and new codex for movies. Personally, I don't agree with the price for the Xbox games (Should be 1000 points instead of 1200), but it is decent. Even though the games are all available on the 360 already as BC games, they did offer a decent amount of games. What surprised me when I first heard about it was some of the lesser, better games being listed at launch (Psychonauts and Indigo Prophesy). Only real bad game on the list is Fusion Frenzy (Don't know why Micrisoft has a hard on for that series) Anywho, I am currently downloading Psychonauts right now, taking quite a bit of time (Its also the highest size, with Crash being the lowest).
I just know it does Xvid now. It seems to have sped up the guide quite a bit, pretty nice update. I don't really get the prices on the Xbox games, since most of those games are cheaper then 15$ (I think), but thats just me, I'd rather have the disc and case.
they charge that because one, they don't care what old games sell in ebgames, they don't see a dime of it anyways. Also, they've been able to sell DLC for $6-8 for a few tracks or whatever. So they figure people are fine with the price range and offer whole xbox games for $15. You'd think they' throw as many up as possible, seeing as how they'll push the bigger HDD's on people.
"Video support now includes AVI and MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile." http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/personality/elle/20071130-systemupdate.htm Under the video section; I don't think it supports anything under divx version 5 though. The downloadable xbox games are a joke, first off they need to reduce the price of the 120 gig hard drive so people can actually store more than 3-4 of the larger games, or allow usb drives to store this content. Also while in bestbuy today they had Halo for $10 new, I don't see the reason anyone would buy these games unless they came w/ extra content. I could see if they allowed play over live with games that previously didn't have it built in, but come on; $15 is a little much.
Yeah, Xbox Originals need some enhancements or something, seriously. Live play or fixed graphics, I bought Fable for 4$ the other week and it runs so terrible on 360, why the fuck charge 15...
The menu speeds have greatly improved, everything feels much more responsive even when playing a game. I have yet to try the divx support but i really like they new layout of the marketplace, much more easy to navigate.
I was telling Henners this, but I would pay like $35 for a Halo download if they enabled Live multiplayer and co-op and also had it support up to 16 Xboxes. That would absolutely own. Hard. I have a feeling they'd make a killing.
Same here, its hard to say how many hours I wasted on Halo pc and xbox lan when i was still in a dorm. I haven't really played much Halo 2 or 3 online though, 2 really killed it for me.
I agree with Sexilious concerning the external drive thing. If Microsoft allowed that, then the downloadable games would be a more viable option. $15 isn't bad, but a lot of the games used are not much more and you get physical media that will play on more than one system (potentially). I think it is great MS are opening up some of the functionality though. A good sign of things to come.
