Interplay were really crafty when it came to selling the Fallout series. Must have been in mega fine print that they still have the rights for the online section of the series and for Bethesda not to notice. Hopefully it will be good. Tempted to sign up for the beta.

Bethseda was well aware that Interplay was keeping the MMO rights but there was a contingency. If Interplay did nothing in terms of development of the MMO after a certain amount of time, then it went to Bethseda.

So Interplay in order to keep the Fallout MMO rights is keeping it in development. This kind of timeline contract is common when it comes to other entertainment properties. Like DC has to come out with a Wonder Women comic every year, no matter what, or will lose the rights (forgot the details as to why).

The graphics on the hand look suspiciously like those in F3/FV, but I cant see bathesda selling them a license for the engine.

On the other hand they could just use the UT3 like everyone else seems to be doing.

Oh, crap that ain't cool... Beta testing was supposed to begin around 2012 but then again, that was when this development was barely on life support, now that they opened up the sign-in lots of websites thought they'd changed the beta to a closer date.

If the release date its so far off then its definitely more of an attempt at holding the rights than a commitment to actually make the game...

That would kinda make sense, remember when they announced they were developing all sequels to all kinds of games like Descent and Earthworm Jim a few years ago? I heard that was to attract investors, since they were actually completely broke and pretty much nothing has been heard of those sequels since...

After doing some research it seems what Shadowlayer and 7Force have both said is true and that Interplay has done nothing in years really. Seems like all talk no action. I remember hearing about an Earthworm Jim game on the PSP being announced and dropped like just before it was complete. Are Interplay then the only company with rights to Earthworm Jim? I always wondered why there has never been any more releases over the years.

Fuck, why don't we raise some money and buy their asses? we could do all kinds of 2D-HD games!

Seriously, look at their forum: it's using cheap-o phpBB! not even vBulletin, let alone propietary code!

Even a site I made 2 years ago had its own forum software:nod:

Actually, it's more complicated than that. The contract stipulated that there had to be something to show (financing, etc.) by April 2010. Right now, Interplay and Bethesda is in a pissing match over this contract right now in court (filed right around the time Interplay signed some agreement with another company to proceed with development). This is further complicated with Interplay releasing the Fallout/Fallout 2/Fallout Tactics boxset under the Interplay label (and Bethesda accusing Interplay of making the boxset look like a trilogy pack). Huge lesson in how reverse licensing deals can go sour.
