GOG is doing their Winter sale, and Fallout 1,2 and Tactics are free for the next 27 hours.

They've got other games on sale too, but you can't beat free.

Apparently they took their highest load spike so far, quadrupled it, bought servers accordingly - and it still wasn't enough...

The situation seems to have improved somewhat since yesterday, but I'm still not seeing three games that I bought (and was billed for) in my account. I expect they'll probably clear that up in a couple of days, but don't expect the site to work as smoothly as usual during this sale.

I managed to get a hold of my copies but it took a while. Good marketing move on their part, GOG is and always has been a great service for old games. Their commitment to Mac ports is commendable too.

Yeah, I got the email from them and got 2 and Tactics (I'd gotten the first when I signed up).

I really like GOG as well, I'll usually plunk down for some classics now and then.

Not to belittle their efforts, but for the older titles that are running in DOSbox, a Mac "port" isn't all that much extra work - basically you just generate another installer, just this time with the Mac version of DOSbox included instead of the Windows one. I just wish that while they're at it they'd also release Linux packages...

Either way, I really, really love their service, and I've long since entered the phase where package deals make little sense to me since I usually own half of the titles. But that leads me right to another thing to love about them: If you already own parts of a package, you don't have to pay for those games again. Instead, the package price is getting knocked down, just for you! Take that, Steam!
