Famicom AV mod, controller issues

As rudimentary as the mod is, im having the strange issue that the controllers are not working (possibly) as a result.

I have no way of testing to see if they worked beforehand as the coax didn't fit my antenna input on my tv.
The only input that works on the controllers are the A button on player 1 and the mic on player 2.

I have three of these and tried swapping out the controllers but with the same result, then i modded a second famicom and it is having the same problem.

Anyone have any ideas? Could those two caps near the controller connectors being dry cause this?

 

Nevermind, it seems that i had earthed the controller inputs

 

Can I ask how you managed that?
