I just got done av modding my fami and it has some nice jail bars on the screen,I followed this guide, only thing I did different is that I lifted pin 21 off the ppu for video in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68uSy-v5Dlk I built the same amp for my friends nes top loader and his produced no jail bars at all,was on par with my av famicom. So does anyone has any solutions? thanks
I removed the PPU insulated with copper tape grounded and it cured the jail bars completely as far as I can tell at least much better than before
Got some copper tape that uses conductive adhesive but I did not desolder the ppu,I simply slid it under the ppu and grounded it to pin 20 and bam no more jail bars:triumphant: Also removed the rf port and installed a 3.5mm TRRS jack for AV,came out better than I thought.
So do you guys use this? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5mm-x-30...AU_Instrument_Accessories&hash=item416cd6a757
This is the stuff I used. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_pickups/Supplies:_Shielding/Conductive_Copper_Tape.html Got the 1/4" wide but I used two layers and it was all I needed.
I did that as well I use a 3.5mm to RCA Belkin cord then on one end used a RCA splitter for sound I would like to find a 3.5mm camcorder style jack that has 3 channels
That's what I'm using is the 3.5mm camcorder av cable, this is the trrs jack I bought. http://www.kvconnection.com/product-p/km-161-7900.htm Also I added a 100uf cap on pin 22 and pin 20 on the ppu.
oh sweet deal man thanks a ton I was unaware you could purchase them. Did you order it from them or some where else? also do they have the cable on their website or should I look on ebay or something
I got the jack from there as they had the cheapest shipping,as for the 3.5mm av cord I already had one but there should be some on ebay. Edit. http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-5mm-AV-A-...40?pt=Camera_Cables_Cords&hash=item23255d7eb8
I tried putting copper tape shielding under and over the PPU of my toploader and it did not reduce the jailbars. : (
OF COURSE I GROUNDED IT! I mean...no, no I didn't. But after reading your comment I did and... It helped! The bars are now barely visible. Thanks : ) FYI instead of removing the PPU, applying the tape, and resoldering it to the board, I did what others in this thread had mentioned and simply slid some tape underneath the PPU. I also applied some tape to the top of the PPU (just in case?) and grounded both of them to the metal frame around the circuit board. Between the AV mod and the copper tape the jailbars have been reduced by probably 75-85%.
