I finally got my Famicom from Japan and I am not ready to open it up yet. So far I found a few problems, mainly with the controllers. The face buttons do not have that tactile feel like one does with regular controllers, meaning the rubber pads will need to be replaced. It's said that the NES rubber pads will do just fine. Now the big question is regarding the screws since they are pretty rusted. I plan on replacing them and would like to know the screw type. Are they the same as the SNES's: 2-56x5/16”?
If you use a NES game pad as parts donor, then you are pretty much covered. Just about everything from NES game pad is interchangeable with Famicom, including the screws and the membranes. The only part that will not fit is the 2nd player Famicom PCB because of the the mic. Also to answer your original question, NES/Famicom/SNES/SFC all use the same screw type. I've took them out and verified it for you.
Thanks, kinda funny this isn't very well known. I used to find this information easier on Google, especially with specific terms, but they think they're being helpful by talking about stripped screws.
