    Hello!
I am looking for informations on the Famicom Golf Tour tournament in Japan.
I know that it used Disk Faxes, that the prices were gold versions of Golf Japan Courses, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! and Golf U.S. Course, but I've found that there was a first and a second edition of this tournament.
Were both editions in 1987? How were the prices distributed? In which tournament?

Any help and additional information is much appreciated. Thanks!

I've found a "Prize Card" too. It's gold just like the US and Japan Golf disks, and it's in the same case (Diskun).

    Any info?

I've been searching for info on these, too. The most I know is what's provided HERE. Unfortunately, the English language site with this info was either removed or is temporarily down.

Do you own any of the four prizes? I'm unsure if Mike Tyson's was ever one.

Edit: Fixed the broken link as best I could; might have to do a bit of searching. The English language page is back up: HERE.

I own the Japan disk, the Prize and thePunch Out. On the backside of the Punch Out there is something written in japanese with "Golf" and "US". If there is someone who can translate it, I'd be glad to post a picture.

    I've got the YM 901 G&W too.

Awesome. I am soooo curious about the PunchOut. You have to post a pic. I've heard rumor about this one, but I've never seen it. Post a pic!

And I've got the Golf US and Gold Japan ones. I've been interested in the Game&Watch, too, but that one seems to be the best documented of them.

Do you know anything about the tournaments?

Is this that golden Famicom disk that is still undumped? I can dump it if anyone has one. I hear those that do have one have already had theirs die, so if yours works, it's time to get that thing backed up!

Sorry if I'm confusing this with something else.

EDIT: Ok, did a little research. There were 5 games in the Disk Fax competition, two of which had Gold Fami disks as prizes (both undumped, I believe). ALso, there's the gold Punch out beta, which is dumped but mislabelled, I believe. Some have been looking for a new dump for some ime.

I run this website with this shrine:

    http://www.famicomworld.com/Shrines/Holy_Grails.htm

I own the two gold Golf disks you'll see in the pics as well as two copies of the gold Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, one of which will be up for sale on eBay soon.

I don't know if the Golf disks work, because 1) I don't have a Disk System, 2) even if they did, I would hate to damage it by testing it out, and 3) even if they did, dumping something that's been undumped reduces the value. But 4) I might be interested in dumping it if I knew the disks wouldn't be damaged in the process, for the sake of preserving the games for future play by gamers.

A shop near my house has one of the Golf disks for $1,000. I've wanted to ask them to open the glass case so I could look at it (the disk box is closed) but that involves all kinds of headaches in Japan...

Is that a CIB Golf disk (white box/letter) or just the Disk-kun case and prize card?

I've been trying to figure out the pricing on these gold disks.

Nice site:) (I guess you got your punchouts recently hehe as above you say you'd never seen the punchout cart???)

Gold Punch Out seems pretty common on yahoo tbh. 10,000 were made. To get it you sent your score on US golf in via the disk fax system (the blue fds discs you could save scores on etc and then stick in the disc fax machines in certain stores which would sent it via modem to Nintendo).

Pricing on the golf stuff..well there's diskkun and disc copies of each for 50k yen on yahoo..and not selling.

As for how you got these items....see site above and the links below

A jp golf course competition gave out the gold jp course.

A US golf competition gave out...well what? Some people say the gold punch outs, others the US gold discs.

I personally think the US golf course competition gave out both. I asked a mate (who entered the comps back in the day) about these a long time ago..I'm pretty sure he said that as the JP golf competition was so popular, when Nintendo did the US comp they had the gold US disks as the main prizes, but with the gold punch outs as the runners up gifts. (please note this is my memory of a very old email with a friend who's english was not so great, but better than my jp of course). Definitely the gold pucnh out was associated with a US Golf competiton.

You can see US gold mentioned on the cart rear and box rear.

Thanks for all the info. I knew some of that already, but the fact that you had to take your disk into a store to have the score "faxed" to Nintendo is new to me. I thought these faxes were also available to gamers.

The numbers released are new to me, too. The only number I have confirmed through official sources is that 10,000 of the Nintendo stationary sets were given out. I don't have officially confirmed numbers on the other four prizes (two gold disks, Punch-Out and Game & Watch) and I hesitate to accept any claims without solid proof, but I'm sure the number was in the thousands.

And I paid about half of $50k yen for each of the items I own, so I think I did alright. I hear that the the last Punch-Out!! on eBay brought in nearly $3k, which I can believe since US gamers are always willing to pay a lot for what they don't often see available. I guess I'll soon enough find out how much gamers are willing to pay for the one Punch-Out!! I'll be putting up on eBay.

$3k. Wow. Let me know when you stick it up, I'd be interested to see what it goes for. I may well have to get buying from japan.

    1) Bummer. ;)
2)Testing them out doesn't damage them...only a write to the disk would and the drive NEVER sends a write signal to the disk unless a save is going on.
    3) Maybe true, but this isn't a cartridge that'd probably last longer much than a FDS disk. Once the image is corrupt (and it WILL corrupt eventually, if it hasn't already), the disk is 100% worthless. Besides, I think the Japan course is dumped out there, but mislabelled. Also, if you dump it, you can restore the disk image file to disk at any time with some simple tools (or send them my way and I can rewrite the image).
4). See 2. PM me, if you'd like me to dump them. I'll even pay return shipping. I have a good reputation, mostly on the digitpress.com/forum message boards (don't visit here often). I think they even have a feedback forum there.

Let me know, as I'll be glad to help you.

Im pretty sure I sold one about 1.5 years ago for less than $200. Boxed and everything. Either that or we're talking about 2 different carts.

Thanks, rbudrick. I might be contacting you soon. I'm gonna be on vacation for two weeks starting Sat., but we'll talk more when I get back.

And japan-games...I hope you're wrong. :-( But like I said, I have no idea what any of this stuff is worth. All I know is what I paid and what gossip I hear about it.

Yeah $3k is inasne, even for a flawless new one. Perhaps it was another gold cart, there's several that are hugely rare and go for BIG money. Aren't there only 8 Gold Rockman 4 carts and 8 Kinnikuman Muscle Tag carts?
