I've came accross this adapter: It's called Family Computer Multi Adapter AX-1 I bought it, because it looked so obscure Furthermore I hoped that it will allow turbo or auto fire functionality for the Famicom. Unfortunately this is the only feature which does not seem working What I currently know: - The device has a headphone socket and it does output the sound of the Famicom. The sound regulator controls the volume - When slow is selected, the start button will be repeatedly triggered. This simulates a slow motion. The speed regulator controls the rate What I don't know: - Mode 1/2 switch. Some games do not start up in Mode 1. - 1/2 Play switch. - B/A switches. I thought these switches would be for turbo/auto fire. But it doesn't work. I tried it with several games. I'd be happy about more information about this device, especially what I can do with all those switches.
I've tested it with a game pad on the second controller port. Turbo fire works on the 2nd gamepad. I tried several combination's of the Mode and Play switches, but it doesn't work for gamepad #1. That's a pity, because turbo fire would be quite helpful in a lot of shooters.
Did you try it with a first generation Famicom or an FC Twin? Maybe it works with non-detachable controller Famicoms only...
The play switch should change the autofire between players one and two. Try plugging in two pads in the system as it was designed for the original FC which had two pads hardwired in. Not sure what the Mode switch does, but here is a (poor) scan of the back.
The expansion port does not provide access to controller #1's data line, so I don't see how direct #1 control COULD work without being able to plug another external controller into the device. Most FC games are programmed for P1 to respond to controller #1 and #3, and P2 to respond to #2 and #4 (allowing simultaneous use of built-in and external controllers). All I can think of is that the device samples #2 and redirects it to #3 to control P1. In this case you'd always have to use a controller in #2.
That could be true. I've noticed that I can control some games with controller #2. However it doesn't work with all games. I have to do a few more tests. I still wonder what the MODE and PLAY switches do. @ Jamtex: thanks for the scan. Hopefully someone can translate a few lines.
This topic is quite old, but I've found more information about this adapter on famicomworld.com: http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=7231.0 We have a better scan of back packaging now: http://imageshack.us/f/195/mxmulti.jpg/ I'd be pleased if someone could translate this for us.
