I was sold a famicom and it turned out to be PAL.

I was checking the usual sites for info but didn't find much
about conversion on the old famicom. I have av modded a U.S.
toploader, but that's much more refined hardware.

There a fix for this? I know famicom doesn't output traditional composite
    without some mods.

You can swap CPU, PPU and Crystal to respective NTSC equivalent, but that a lot of work, easier to just get a jap one I think.

And anyway to video isn't going to look as nice anyway as an jap famiccom since the video patch is made to specifialy amp an pal signal

The PAL famicoms were sold in Hong Kong and a few other asian countries. It's a lot rarer then the normal Famicom :)
