    Hello!
Yes, this is a price check, but it's not against the rules :)
I would like to buy a Famicom with square buttons, boxed, but I don't know how much these usually sell for.

    Any idea?

Is there someone who may sell one to me, maybe from Japan? Don't want to buy it on yahoo, since I should use an intermediate buyer-seller.

    Thanks!

    Nicola

New or used? New ones are pretty prized by collectors so can run quite a bit higher than any later fc models (ie round button). I'm sure you know what to pay for a new round model..so add anywhere from 50-150% more.

New are going to be nearly impossible to find since the console was never actually sealed. It will be hard enough to find an authentic 1983 case much less a new one; the Famicom went through a number of minor revisions (with the case, RF modulator, PCB and ICs) there were perhaps 5 or so case revisions. Some will be a dead giveaway but unfortunately I don't know all of the indications of how to spot each revision and most collectors are clueless. Just remember that if you find the original controllers it may not match the console.

For a complete 1983 model in used condition I would expect to pay nearly US$200. For a mint collectors piece, I would expect to pay $400-500. The only old model Famicom that are available today "new" are the ones manufactured I think between 1990 and 1993. They are a dead giveaway from the Famicom Family "FF" mark on the badge and the metal support on the cartridge connector.

Calpis, why do you say that? There was never a square button box, only round button. Was there something else that tipped you off?

Are you sure there is no square button box? That doesn't make much sense since Nintendo would have to be thinking past the recall/first revisions.

Beyond that the AC adapter and RF are third party of course.
