I've got a Nintendo Family Basic set with keyboard and Family Basic V3. Unfortunately I do not own the Data Recorder. Is it possible to load and save programs with a different tape recorder or is it only compatible with the official Nintendo Data Recorder?

I remember that it was possible to use a normal tape recorder on some home computers (e. g. BBC Micro). I hope that's possible with the Nintendo Family Basic as well, because the official Data Recorder is quite expensive.

Btw, did Nintendo or any third parties released software for the Data Recorder?

The Nintendo one is just a regular tape recorder in a Famicom case, you can use any old tape recorder.
