Teaser for the second iteration (with a lot of the first iteration in place) Trailer for second iteration Early on, Heavy Iron Studios was contracted to produce a game based on Family Guy from Activision & Fox. Initially, we dealt with Fox (and later Activision) who wanted a zombie story line and game play along the lines of Left 4 Dead. We spent 6 months putting together a prototype that had a lot of different avenues (story/sandbox gameplay, multiplayer, deathmatch, etc), but ultimately it was decided it was too 'dark' and the focus shifted to what you see above (which was heavily changed again). During a meeting with Seth Macfarlane, he flipped out at all the violence and blood and then assigned two writers from the show. The game went through another 6 months of development towards Alpha/Beta/Final, only to be shelved and development to start over again. I stopped watching Family Guy for 3 years as a result of all the behind the scenes issues with the licensor. Anyway, the original prototype (which I don't have) was really something. The one you see here was the second iteration, with the actual released version still quite a bit different.
If they really had a problem with the blood they could have just had it removed. This would of really cashed in on the zombie craze. On top of that it looks like a really fun game.
Sounds like some disconnect between Fox and Seth if he really had issue with all the blood and stuff. The show's had blood and violence unnecessarily for cheap laughs for years now. Game itself while unremarkable looks like it would be fun to play though. Thanks for sharing!
Seth Macfarland had a problem with BLOOD & VIOLENCE??!! Isn't this the same creator that has all the gore and blood put into each episode he makes yearly?! LMFAO!
Yeah, we were scratching our heads. Apparently (I wasn't at the presentation with him) when he saw it he screamed "WTF IS THIS?!?!?!?!?!" Then a tirade about blood, violence, etc. ensued. Somehow I don't know why the game was deemed violent and inappropriate when the halloween episode of Family Guy had Stewie with an M16. Go figure. Game eventually came out, but it was nothing like the first two iterations of development.
Seriously?! he was pissed?! hahahaha! that's really crazy and full of irony coming from the guy LOL, but besides that your game looks very fun to play honestly and way much better than that Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse and Family Guy: Video Game back in the PlayStation 2 era.
Long story short: we had been asking Fox, followed by Activision to have Fuzzy Door (Seth Macfarlane's production company) provide writers from the show (otherwise they're stuck with what our studio wrote). After the meeting with Seth, two writers were provided. The Multiverse game was the end result. Third time, in this case, was not the charm. We got about 1/2 way through development with the first iteration with the Fox Interactive team, then 3/4 with the second iteration with the Activision team, only to stop and start over again with Seth's assigned writers. A train wreck with a sub-standard game that shipped as a result. Sad, because the earlier iterations were pretty hardcore (gameplay/humor/etc).
I have watched one or two videos of Multiverse and didn't get me interested, but this one was really attractive. Actually there are really things that McFarlane gets hypocrital in real life, but i would be surprised because of the whole lots of blood stuff, both Family Guy games were rated Mature.
