This was posted on another messageboard but nobody knew the answer and I'm interested so I thought I'd post it here: "This one sure is obscure. A mate of mine bought Fatal Fury Special for SNES. On closer inspection we noticed that Laurence Blood, The boxer, the fat Hong Kong dude and one other character who escapes me were missing along with their relevant stages. Not that puzzling, stuff like this happens in ports to less powerful consoles all the time. Except that when I checked the American and Japanese roms on an emulator I found that all four characters were still available in the foreign versions. This was a while ago and it's been sending my very-anal-when-it-comes-to-SNES mate off his rocker. So, a couple of questions. 1. Is there any cheat code, be it pad input or Action Replay, that will unlock the missing characters? and heres the one I don't reckon ANYONE will know.... 2. Why were these characters taken out of the PAL version? I'm vaguely curious, it is a little odd, but my friend has been driven to distraction by this ponderer. Various conspiriacy theories have been thrown around ranging from the kinda plausible to those frankly terrifying in their suspicion. Anyone want to set an increasingly fragile mind at rest?" I'm only really bothered about knowing the answer to the bit in bold. Thanks
ROM size? Perhaps, anticipating poor sales, they cut parts out of the game so that the ROM would be smaller and cheaper to produce (and therefore less risk).
Yep, The PAL version of Fatal Fury is missing characters and stages ! The ROM size is much smaller than the import one. Shit game anyway. Now SFC Fatal Fury Special is something to be proud about ! 32 MEgs of pure class fighting action. Yakumo

I seem to remember you could press I think down on the PAL version in multiplayer mode, and one of you could choose a boss character. Yes, only ONE of you! Was this the same in other territories?
Not sure. I know that in Special (JPN ver) you could control Ryo from Art of Fighting plus access the hidden stage. Yakumo
Considering how much they go for used, I must say a very bold move to paint it. Hats off to you on that one.
