Well, I'm hoping someone who has worked on these before might be able to help me out. Here goes.. A customer brought me in a Treamcast that was able to output to a TV through it's A/V - but will only show a white screen on its own LCD. Now, before I continue I should say that I have been working *blind* for the the last month as my scope is off to the manufacturers. So, first things first. I crack open the box and check the LCD (CMV54NT04P). Seems OK, but I wired in a known working screen (Sharp LM6Q401) to compare - same issue. Working back, I get to the top PCB in the unit. There were two obviously dry caps which I replaced - I actually just opted to change all caps on the board to rule out any that were failing under load. Tested all other components, coil, trannys etc and nothing jumped out at me. Decided the tv chip (Philips OM8361) was probably to blame, and so replaced with a compatible model (TDA8361). No joy. Exact same bright white screen. I just about ready to lose it with this repair - so if anyone can save my sanity with a suggestion - I'd really appreciate it. Thanks
I know the issue, but I don't know a fix, sorry. A few years ago I sold a perfectly working Treamcast on eBay and the customer told me he had said issues with it (which I never encountered before) so I got a faulty Treamcast back and lost money on shipping and eBay fees. So, if you happen to find a fix, that would help me as well! I suspected the wiring, to no avail.
A pic of the treamcast board would help, I would suspect if you're getting all white it's involving whatever video amp they have on the board.
