It's the next thing I'm loading my Pi with Lots and lots of Rom hacks, for not it's mostly just Sonic Rom hacks because Sonic fans GET IT. Sonic Mania is made by high profile Rom Hackers. I have a few Mega Man hacks as well and a file of about 375 of them but they won't all go on the pi because unlike Sonic fans, Mega Man fans DO NOT get it. I've played a few decent Mario hacks as well. Beyond that I haven't found any satisfying Castlevania hacks. I did find some Bomberman hacks that I haven't tested yet. So I'm just throwing this out there, what Rom Hacks do you enjoy?
One somewhat famous hack in Spain is called "La lellenda de la Cerda", a Spanish translation of Zelda Link's Awakening but transforming all dialogs with drugs, obscenities and jokes everywhere. Just wanted to mention this as it was the first hack I played. But I know you won't be able to enjoy it if you don't know Spanish.
These are my hacks: http://www.romhacking.net/?page=hacks&authorid=611 These are my favorites of them: Castlevania Legends - SOTN Remix New GFX CVA Quick Fix Double Dragon GENESIS - Arcade Fix Return of Double Dragon Music Fix Super CV IV - CV1 Font + HUD + Icons Super Mario Bros 1 SMAS - NESised Super Mario Adventures The CV Legends uses graphics inspired by SOTN. CVA Quick Fix increases the walking speed and keeps you from losing your whip powerup when hit. DD Genesis Arcade fix makes weapons not break too quickly after being thrown a few times and also reduces enemy walking speed to sane levels. Return of DD Music fix changes the JP versions music order to match the US version. I felt the US version music order was superior because one of the games most epic songs was moved to the end of the game and was replaced with a boring song. The CV IV font changes the HUD to have CV1 font and colors. It also changes the weapon sprites to be closer to CV1. SMAS hack changes some of the more drastic graphic changes of SMAS to match the NES graphics. Super Mario Adventures swaps various enemies and sprites in Tiny Toon Adventures to Super Mario universe ones. I used President Koopa as the end boss instead of bowser. I always wanted a game featuring characters from the movie.
Id say my favorite 2 romhacks were Metroid Super Zero Mission (Super Metroid romhack), and Zelda: Shadow of Night (Zelda 2 romhack). Both were really well done, and threw some nice twist on the gameplay from the vanilla games.
Me too, i love that rom hack, also the rom hack i never played is Extra Mario Bros (SMB1 Hack), it's got a metroid feel to this mario rom hack. I haven't played Zelda the Legend of Link hack, it's on my to do list.
Goldeneye X (N64) is fantastic, it's a project to bring Goldeneye to Perfect Dark's engine, so that you have Goldeneye with all of the advantages of Perfect Dark, such as sims (bots) in multiplayer, weather effects, better artificial intelligence in the enemies, in-game speech, and so on. Currently it's only the multiplayer that's (almost) finished, but you now have all of the GE weapons and levels, plus bots, and some extra levels, and it's *fantastic*). Most of the single player levels have been added, but for now you can only explore them, as there are no enemies or objectives in place, unlike the multiplayer which is more or less complete. To read more about it, go to: http://www.goldeneyevault.com/viewfile.php?id=202 Also some Perfect Dark (N64) mods that do things like let you use the Goldeneye weapons in multiplayer, or let the sims (bots) use mines, play multiplayer in the single player levels etc. Sin and Punishment (N64) - English translation (well, it is a rom hack)
Try Zelda: Parallel Worlds if you're up for a challenge. Mario Kart R ain't bad either. Iirc there are 2-player hacks for Secret of Evermore as well as Secret of Mana 2/Seiken Densetsu 3. The debug mode patch for Pilotwings is nice to have, too.
Definitely my favorite Super Metroid hack. Extremely well made, & has some good replay value. The Half-life 2 mod, Underhell, is pretty damn awesome. During the story, it will have these little intermission scenes where it spawns you at your house & you have to walk around it unlocking clues for yourself. The house has a lot of interactivity & cool scripted scenes to see/hear, which added a bunch of life to the game for me. A hack I am really excited for is X-Fusion, which is also a Super Metroid hack. It is still in development, but it looks incredible. The custom AI he whipped together for all of the new bosses is impressive. Take a look. http://forum.metroidconstruction.com/index.php/topic,3054.0.html There is way more than I have time to mention. Long live hacking/modding!
> Underhell Oh, are we doing mods on PC too? I'll just leave this ("Radiator") here then. It's a weird one...
No, you don't want to play it because it's complete and utter ass with the ubiquitous Mega Man X3 rips
