After reading the thread about game music sites, it seems there's a lot more people into game music here than I thought. Personally I listen to game music nearly as much as non-game music - I'm listening to the BGM from Sega Rally right now on my MP3 CD walkman! Anyway, what do you guys like? Personally I'm mostly into a lot of Sega, Konami and Square (yes, I'm a Nobuo Uematsu fanboy - kill me now!) stuff. EDIT: Here's a list of stuff I remember I like at the moment: Sega: - Sega Rally (and it's so easy to rip music off Saturn games! :-D ) - Virtua Tennis (though I hate some of the tracks) - Out Run, OF COURSE - After Burner II - Super Hang-On 2 - Sonic 1 & 2, and to an extent 3 - haven't heard the proper Sonic CD music yet besides the opening - Streets of Rage - Space Harrier - Fantasy Zone Square: - FFVIII (looking back at it, the music was probably the best part of that annoying piece of 4-disc annoyance) - Most the other FF's, though most notably V and VI. Some of the orchestrations are pretty decent too - especially the 21-minute FFVI opera - Front Mission, and FM: Gun Hazard (I'm not a total Nobuo Uematsu whore!) - Seiken Densetsu 2 & 3 Konami: - Most the SCC stuff on the MSX: F1 Spirit, Gradius 2, Gofer no Yabou Episode 2, Parodius (the ORIGINAL original was on the MSX!), Space Manbow, Snatcher and SD Snatcher, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Pennant Race 2 (the only baselball I play ^_^), etc. You're really missing out if you haven't played any Konami MSX games! - I kinda like a lot of the other Parodius stuff, in a I-hate-myself kinda way... - Gradius 1-3 (arcade, also 3 on the SNES) - Salamander - Yume Pengiun Monogatari - don't ask! - Pop'n TwinBee - it's really cool, in a really cheesy kinda way... - Contra - well the first stage on the NES is bitchin'! Same goes for Super C Other random stuff: - P.O.W. (NES) - first stage - Command & Conquer (Saturn version with proper CDDA tracks - the PC version may look better, but it sounds like ass compared to this!) - Most earlier Kirby stuff (GB/NES/SNES) - Pilotwings (it's cheese-tastic!) - F-Zero - Some Pokemon stuff - And... about a million other things I can't think now. PS: I don't suppose anyone has the lyrics to that song on the credits of Sega Rally? From what I can comprehend, it's total gibberish...
Oh Sega Rally is definitely a good choice yes :-D Other than that, I really like: - Rayman - Nights Into Dreams - Layer Section (everything by Zuntata, I guess) - Rez *hums the Buggie Running Beeps* :smt033 - Goldeneye 64 (fits the atmosphere very well) - Dune (GREAT chillout tunes methinks) - Deus Ex (not all of them) - Unreal
Was Dune anything like Dune 2? That also had cool music, though I haven't played it since about 1996...
I really liked the music in tokyo xtreme racers for dc. that and the wipeouts for psone. thats all i can really think of at the moment. bunch of technoish stuff, not my regular cup of tea but good for racing :-D
hmmmm some of my favorite game music are as follows on systems (because i can´t remember who made the games) sega master system: altered beast the sonic games(1 & 2) C64 international karate 1 , 2 & + bubble bobble Giana Sisters Outrun(Passing Breeze in cover on C64 Hits 1 - Back To The Roots that is damn awesome) AMIGA Monkey Island Cannon Fodder dune 2 SNES Killer Instinct Streetfighter 2 & turbo Chrono Trigger Secret Of Mana Zelda 3 and many others and this is not even a top of of my favorites but those i really like :smt023 :smt023
Nope it's totally different, more like an adventure game set in the Dune universe with a totally altered story. Oh and come to think of it, the Wipeout games indeed have some damn good music, and I like the "Lobby" music from Knuckles Chaotix (also to be heard in Sonic Crackers) so much I've set it as my phone ringtone
I only have PC "must have" music: TES: Arena Crusader series (you shoot everything that moves) Deus Ex Super Street Fighter II Turbo (the music is fantastic on the CD) There are probably more, but none that come to mind right now.
SNES - Chrono Trigger NES - Final Fantasy Genesis - Sonic The Hedgehog Dreamcast - Ikaruga Gamecube - Metroid Prime N64 - Mischief Makers NES - Castlevania PC Engine - Gradius SNES - Super Mario World And basically anything from Konami's Bemani series.
I liked the music in Knuckles Chaotix, but it was that same wonky Genesis "WAWK KLISH KLISH" sounding music that ya always hear. Anyways... Lunar Silver Star Story Complete Donkey Kong Country 2 Alundra Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon And the Galaxy Monkey tune from Ape Escape... ace.
Mega Drive: Truxton Mega CD: Sonic CD (best ever) Saturn: Night into Dreams I'll try to remember more later
FFVIII had amazing music, nice call there. (Though I thought it was the best FF out of the new ones--haven't played any non 3D ones yet) Also enjoyed: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Deus Ex Crazy Taxi (fits the game beautifully) Banjo Kazooie Halo 1 & 2 (great guitar stuff there) Goldeneye (very atmospheric) There's probably some other stuff, but that's the stuff that really sticks in my mind, even if I haven't played those games (like OoT) for 4-5 years.
let's see ikaruga Nights into dreams Streets of rage I II and III (yes i know 3 sucked but i like it) Sonic cd (sonic boom baby :-D ) REZ Soul calibur (especialy the intro music damn it's so good) Halo I and II
I prefer Toot Toot Sonic Warrior myself - it's so stupid it must be good! I knew there was something I was forgetting! I finish the arcade mode just to hear the credits music! (I know you can just listen to it in the sound test but what's the fun in that? :-D)
Well, not really into game music as much as you guys. I do like the Music from SNES Castelvania IV, particularly the 1st, 2nd, and 4th stages (the sunken city stage has a cool jazz thing going.) Also, there's one song from Geoman 64 that stuck with me enough that I had to download it. Festival town, I think. Of course all the FF games have cool music too.
If you like the music on FFVIII, you'll really like the proper orchestrations of some of the songs they did on the Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec album. It's good-tastic! There's loads of that kind of stuff on Anime-Nation if you're interested.
oooh wow Edge Of Soul rulez on soulblade (the opening theme) (souledge to noneuropeans) damn i forgot that that piece of music i like
