Anyone one ever make/buy one of these cables? http://www.tototek.com/store/index...._id=98&zenid=495fedb52b2b49192b114a23b06033a5 http://famicomworld.com/workshop/tech/build-your-own-fdsloadr-cable/ Ended up watching a video about this cable http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnMbbV55t8A It uses a parallel port and FDSloader command line. Now the question is. I have PC towers that have parallel ports on them. But I was hoping to use a laptop, now the laptop I have does not have a parallel port, I know there are parallel to USB cables that work in Windows but what I want to know is if anyone knows if there is a parallel to USB cable that will work in FDSloader command line?
I've got one of those cables, bought from tototek. From what I've read, any parallel to USB will not work. The fdsloadr program also needs to be run in genuine DOS, the command line in later Windows versions, or even using a virtual machine, will not do the job.
Any NT-based Windows is a no-go. For virtual machines it's possible to use DOSBox in linux i think, since you can give it a direct access to a parallel port. If you have a machine with real parallel port, then try it or just boot any kind of DOS form a flash drive. But i think it will be way easier to get one of those older laptops that got a parallel port, like in that video. It can be anything with 486DX and higher CPU, a smaller one will be better since you can just place it near your FDS.
Yeah that was my thoughts just get a smaller one. Not a big issue anyway, my disk system needs a new belt, which I have but haven't gotten around to replacing so its in storage. Mostly just a curiosity question about if I could possibly find a parallel to USB working in DOS for anything. Most likely in the end I will just find a cheap mini ITX board that either has the ports or a PCI slot I can add some and use my USB powered HDMI monitor (pic below cause I felt like sharing ) to pretend its a laptop. Thanks for the info guys!
