If it had been acurate, in response to your original question, i'd say yes MS would have a definet chance to crack the japanese market if the two franchises appeared on 360 (if new versions were released that had a smaller PSU and ate less power that is).
well dont forget, alot of peopel are goign to xbox 360 as alternative due to price. So i woudlnt be shocked if square was already planing ports on both.
Not of the same game, franchises are probably going to end up on both. Like Final Fantasy CC on the GC, FFXI on the xbox, etc. Sony owns enough stock in Square to get exclusive big titles it wants. This is just square enix cashing in on all possible markets by releasing side games all over the place.
Even they were considering multiple consoles for FFXIII and DQIX they would still launch first on the PS3. Porting it to the 360 will directly depend on how well it's doing in Japan. If it bombs over there by the time it launches then they're not going to waste the manpower, time, and money.
