Hi guys, I've recently got my hands on an original translucent blue Xbox and it's gorgeous. As far as I can tell, it's already modded, since it can play games from DVD-Rs and hard drive. What I'm trying to figure out is how it was modded (preferably without disassembling the console itself), since the previous owner didn't know the details himself. I've got a few clues, but since I've got no experience with this stuff it's hard for me to figure this out by myself. Here's what I've managed to notice: the console can be booted in either normal / vanilla or hacked mode. As far as a can tell, the boot mode is selected by pressing the power button differently: a short momentary press boots to normal mode, while pressing and holding the power button for a second or so makes the console boot to a hacked mode; if the console is booting to a hacked mode, the boot animation has an "EvoX" icon placed in the upper left corner of the screen (the pics isn't mine, but it's the same in my case); after booting hacked mode, the console displays an "Evolution-X" dashboard with various options, while booting to normal mode results in a seemingly stock dashboard; the consoles was certainly opened (probably to mod it), since the two labels on the bottom are damaged in areas, where the screws are under them; So how was this console modded? Was a mod chip installed inside? Was the bios flashed with a custom one? Was there some kind of a softmod done? I'm interested mostly because I want to know what my situation is here today and what sequence of actions will I need to do if I plan to install a different hard drive in the future. I've tried to figure things on my own by searching the net, but it didn't go so well because of many conflicting information out there. The naming mess alone is a problem for me: some people claim that "EvoX" is a hardware modchip, others say that it's a custom bios that is flashed to a stock console, while other say that it's just a shorthand name for the "Evolution-X" dashboard - with different people insisting either that it's the same thing or different things. So I'm asking you for your help .
The Evox can be either a modchip or a Tsop mod. I dont think you would get that image from just a normal softmod. Since you can choose how the xbox boots via how you press the power button I would say 100% that there is a chip attached to the power button. Likely either a DuoX or a Aladdin, they were the most common chips to be used that were set up in that fashion. There are of course other chips that use that function but there are usually dead give away signs on the xbox that its been modded, Like external switches or even visible lights from the vents on the left side of the xbox under the DVD drive. Shine a flashlight Into the side of the xbox with the dvd drive and try to get a picture of inside the xbox from though the vent, it would help if we could see inside a bit.
If there's a red LED shining on the side of your system under the DVD-ROM drive. Then it's a Duo X3 most likely.
Hello, My xbox works the same, exactly the same and I get the same logo etc... Mine has an Aladdin chip inside. So nothing special about your console. It's a modded console with a well known bios. Regards.
Aladdins that I've bought came with EvoX. The long-press boot from TSOP supports the Aladdin theory as well. But, as mentioned, open it up and take a picture. And take a picture of the outside of the box, while you're at it! Lets see this translucent case.
