Remember that pretty cool live action trailer that went up a year ago? Well the team have launched a KickStarter to get a web series of it made! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects...-fantasy-vii-the-web-series-unofficial-fan-pr
Okay will admit as much as he rants about stuff seeing Doug Walker in that Sonic vid made me tilt my head *really* hard. As for the FF7 web series...it *could* work, but they need to refine it a bit more I feel. Barret pretty much looks silly, and Aeris keeps having an expression like someone broke wind and she's trying to figure out who in the room did it.
It's nice to see that Square is allowing it, especially after the halt put on OC ReMix's FF6 kickstarter a while back. I kind of wish people would pick a less boring game though. If only this could be made into a web series. Edit: Finally, I found a working link. It seems that the creator changed the name of their YouTube channel.
I usually dont like these live action fan movies. That being said, holy shit was that Ninja Gaiden video amazing.
MY EYES! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??! I don't think its possible to make sonic serious and dramatic, both adventure games tried and failed. I rather try and make it a black comedy of sorts, like Portal 2

I'd be lying if I said this came as a big surprise to me. But to be fair, I can almost see where Squeenix is coming from on this one: unlike most SE-wrecked projects of the past (at least those I know of), the creators of this series were soliciting money to start a project based on SE's properties. Granted, I still think it's a fairly bullshit decision (this is SE we're talking about here), especially if this was gonna be freely distributed. I'm just playing devil's advocate here.
It's not overly surprising to me either really, but it is a little shitty since they had endorsed the trailer and actually posted it on the various social media arms SE have.
Woah, what the shit? Squeenix actually endorsed it at one point? OK, I entirely invalidate my devil's advocate argument in my last post. That's just throwing them under the bus. How SE manages to constantly impress shareholders with the way they treat fans is beyond me.
They've said on their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/FinalFantasyVIITheWebSeries) that they haven't actually received a C&D notice or any direct contact with SE, they've only had the KickStarter taken down.
HArdly surprising...SE are known to be brutal with protecting their franchises IMHO it's really silly of them since I think no publicity is bad publicity...besides, it's not like anyone's gonna accidentally mistake an amateur web series for SE's work....
I don't see how or why the project ever needed kick starter funding anyway. Final Fantasy VII is a good game and you really need to experience it to truly appreciate it. It can also be a bloody long game which would mean we'd need a ridiculously long series to see the story in all of its glory. Commercializing an amateur production will only really have got the people involved a free ride to some fun (and yeah maybe some hardship) in the pursuit of their own dreams at the expense of the investors. They have got that shit backwards. A fan made amateur production live action web story should just be about a bunch of people having a laugh and if they choose too, sharing the results -_-
Well, to think of it from their perspective, they'd want money to get/make decent props, special effects, renting equipment, etc, intending to give the viewer the best and most fun experience watching it as possible (for comparison's sake, there is NO whimsy or fun to be had with Eddie Lebron's Sonic minifilm). And as far as I know, the people behind this project did have startup money; the KS was just asking for additional help (whereas the sleezier KSes are usually meant to be the source of 100% of the funds for the project). also at least this isn't nearly as big a waste of money as tropes vs women in videogames lol
