Mixed feelings indeed. I do find it sad that Square has lost all sense of originality and feels the need to remake damn near every single game in their library (in some cases multiple times). Then again, all their talent is gone, so I guess thats to be expected if they hope to see decent sales. Oh well, here's to the inevitable remakes of Final Fantasy VI and probably even Final Fantasy Mystic Quest and at some point Secret of Evermore.
I was going to respond with something like 'couldn't see the joins between pre-render and in-game', but I don't think I'll even bother. Instead, I'll raise a toast to the wish of more imaginative products in the future. I would, however, like to see a remake of Illusion of Time/Gaia just so that it wasn't lost to the mists of time.
Note to Square: Quitting making the same fucking game Note to people buying them: Quit buying them Note to all developers: quit making 3D games on the DS: They look like absolute shit Note to the loser that wrote that article: You're right... it's a terrible thing. I hate everything -GP
Now, if they remade the fucking game with the graphics used in the FMV I'd be happy as can be over the remake. But it's DS, which means you get some pathetic piece of shit that can't even beat the Playstation or Sega Saturn in 3D graphics. It's just a pathetic waste. I heard rumors the reason you see all these remakes (other than the obvious cashing in reasons) is because when Square and Enix merged Square lost alot of the materials from their older games including source code. I don't know if that's true but either way it's not excuse for shitty Nintendo DS remakes. If they had atleast made it 2D it would have been decent.
Irony! I think if they want to fix all this numbers and 2D\3D shit, they should just remake EVERY one (I-IX) on one system (PS3?), fix all the translations, make them all pretty (or whatever they want), get all the numbers straight and then leave the games the fuck alone. Let them go down in history as great games, not whored out tramps that were fucked by every system in town. Give em all 1 nice remake (in the original dimension), and leave the games be.
I may be the only one in this thread who thought this title at least looks promising. FFIV was a cool game with cool characters. Even though the graphics aren't on the level of Xbox 360, Wii, or PS3, I still find it tolerable. I like the voice acting, too. I also would like to see an FF5 Remake, as it was one of my other favorite FF games. Upset? Well, keep on drinking the Hateorade, I don't care.
There's plenty... this thread is filled with some obscure music picks of mine...each one a masterpiece as far as I'm concerned. Most are as far from mainstream as you can get, which is usually a good thing in my book. For the record... I used to listen to alternative music and I pretty much hated Offspring right out of the box. As jp said, I like Taroumaru quite a bit. Haven't put enough time into Blast Wind to judge it, although I do like other games by Tecnosoft (oddly enough.. the Thunder Force series the least). Cave's arcade division can do no wrong. Mainly my disgust is w/ the console and fake console (handheld) world. 90% of the arcade/retro collections are really poorly done. The only really good ones of recent are the Sega Ages 2500 and the Oretachi no Gesen series by Hamster. I can't remember the last time there were new games coming out on consoles that I really looked forward to. Look on the bright side... every forum has to have their local pessimist.
GP, your point about "looking forward to games" is correct in my book. The only game I ve been looking forward to is Super Smash Bros Brawl. Everything else, even Zelda (I am a huge nintendo fan since childhood, i went ape-shit on Zelda OoT and MM on the n64) feels like "been there, done that". I ve recently started playing old crappy(sometimes) racers, like Lotus and Lotus II RECS on the Genesis/Megadrive and I m enjoying the time-warp NOTE TO SELF: must complete Panzer Dragoon Saga >_>
Good game. I should play this again. Biggest problem with it: The text flies by automatically. I played it in Japanese when my reading was somewhat weak, so I missed a lot. PRobably would miss a lot in English too anyway, but still. I popped in De La Jet Set Radio yesterday (still playing today) . I think that "era" was the last time I was really pumped for new releases.
Well said  As for Panzer Dragoon Azel, I've also only played that in Japanese so I too missed some of the story I last played it (and completed it) last year but I'm a lazy sod when it comes to reading kanji yakumo
The whole PD series is pretty brutal. Definitely takes some high level reading (and fast) to understand it. It's one I've always wanted to replay, but haven't gotten around to it.
