Hello, Assemblers. AllGamesBeta reports that Square-Enix has announced Final Fantasy Type-0 HD for the PC (Steam) at the 2015 MSI Computex Gaming Night event. I don't have a PS4, and I'm kind of hyped. Unfortunately, I have to have mixed feelings because of the Final Fantasy XIII ports, but I've heard that the PS4 has more PC-like architecture. (That would explain all the PC ports to and from the console.) Therefore, there's a chance Square-Enix might actually deliver a PC version of a Final Fantasy game that isn't locked at a low framerate or missing configuration options. What are everyone's thoughts on this development?
It's a great game, worth of your hype. It'll be a good port. That's half of what SE does anymore anyway haha. Modders will find a way to make it even better. First course of action will likely be removing the motion blur.
You are so right. I remember how bummed I was when I first saw the motion blur they added to the console port. Best case scenario would be the option built in from the start, no modding necessary. I don't have enough faith in Square-Enix for that, though.
I'd be surprised. I don't mind it, but it's a point of contention. It was added to make it seem as though it wasn't a PSP game. As if we weren't already aware.
Probably wouldn't happen unless they wrapped it in an emulator like FFIII, IV were wrapped in Android emulators because IX never had a PC release. Too much effort otherwise and Type-0's port would've put it into an easier format for PC release.
That sums it up nicely. Square-Enix has been very lazy with their Final Fantasy PC ports, and IX would be too big of a job. Final Fantasy VII was an odd exception, since they kept improving things after release, like restoring the PS1 version's soundtrack. My suspicion is that they were making the best PC build possible to make way for a better PS4 release.
That and the community had already figured out the majority of issues with the original PC version and figured out the origin of issues within the newer ports of VII and VIII. The guys over at Qhimm had already come up with a solution by the time Square made an official patch for it - better than constantly fielding numerous 'bug' reports for a shitty MIDI inclusion, which could've been avoided by using the soundfont that had already been made from the PS1 version too. I mean, Capcom could dump the SourceNext Biohazard PC versions on Steam and call it a day to nearly same degree as to what SQEX have done with the FF ports. I suppose if they did that, then we wouldn't have such massive fucking optimization (or rather, the lack of) issues like we've seen with REmake and RE4 in particular. But I could rant about ports all day. I'm glad at the very least that Square IS making the games available via Steam, even if they haven't been handled in a spectacular fashion - they're still easy enough to make our own modifications to.
Honestly, the only reason I haven't jumped back in to FF9 again is because it's not on PC haha. I have a PS3 with the compatability, but idunno... I just don't feel drawn to consoles as much anymore aside from the Wii U. FF9 on PC!!!
You'd think with how port-happy Square Enix is that they would bring FFIX somewhere else. Although if you have a copy you can emulate it and upscale it. Looks great from what I hear. Also didn't users fix up the FFXIII ports?
Yes, the community did fix the XIII ports in ways as well. As for IX, it would also depend as to what extent of assets and the like are still around - considering their track record, there's higher odds of it just getting chucked into an emulator. :/ But there was that topic with people hunting for some of the assets of IX to make a high resolution mod to be inserted when emulating the game on PC - so it's not as though some of them aren't floating about, or that it would be impossible to do. I just don't really see it happening for quite some time, sadly.
That's what I thought. They were pretty messy initially. That's what happened with the PSN IX. Straight emulated. You're right, and it's a shame. I mean, Hironobu Sakaguchi does consider FFIX to be his favorite out of the series. I would love to see some sort of HD mod for it.
