I got into this game not long before the PS4 was launched, and I friggin' love it. I typically don't like MMORPGs and get quite bored (I've put countless hours into World of Warcraft, for example, but have never got addicted as such, nor ever really found it that enjoyable). This one... there's something different about it.

So, who else is playing FFXIV? I decided to make this thread because I've been kicked out of another guild, probably due to me not playing for a few months. Unfortunately, I haven't had the time nor money to put into the game over the past six months, so I've mainly only played during free weekends. I'm playing on Faerie, if anyone cares (mainly because it's relatively low population, so the chance of queuing for login is low).

If anyone wants to make a guild with me, I'd be down with that. The first one I was in kicked me out for apparently no reason (when I was playing regularly), and the second one which I generally got on well with just kicked me sometime in the past few months when I haven't been online, without any notice. You'd think they could at least send you a message as common courtesy. I actually had my own guild on Cerberus for a bit, but I didn't like my character's design nor name, so I decided to change it with the server change trick (that isn't obviously needed now). None of my friends care about this game (because League of Legends or DOTA. Screw those pleb games), so I'm kinda left on my own... in an MMO. I'd love to make my own guild again, but if I do, I probably wouldn't be on much. I'd totally give other people free reign to do what they want (short of kicking me out and taking all my money, of course).

Well, regardless, let's make this into a Final Fantasy XIV discussion thread at the very least. Here's some ideas:
What's your opinion on the story (or do you find it tripe and skip through most of it like I do)?
Do you think it's a good idea to keep it subscription-based? I wish it was cheaper, but I don't currently have a job, so I'm biased.
What do you think of Heavensward so far? I hope flying mounts are eventually as exciting as they are in WoW these days (all I do in WoW is fly around. Seriously).
What classes/jobs do you prefer, and did you find something you liked better than your first choice? I personally started as a Lancer/Dragoon and decided I prefer Healer/White Mage way, way more.
What platform do you play it on? I started on PS3 then migrated to PS4, but I'd like to one day get it on PC as well, so that I have options depending on where I am and what I'm doing.
Do you want all gold seller spammers to rot in Hell? If no, you are a gold seller. Probably the one that just spammed me. I wish there was a "Block and Report" option, but the best I have is a Block macro.

I bought the game on release, wasn't enough server space for players, didn't get to play, missed 30 day free trial, wasted £15, never went back...

It's much better now. Did you buy it on release of the legacy version or A Realm Reborn? Because that also makes a difference. They have free weekends every now and then where you can play without a subscription, and there's a whole free week at the moment (until the 9th of March), so you can try it out again for free.

I was in the beta (both versions) and really enjoyed it the second time around. Probably one of the best MMOs I've played, but it'd be nice if its character creator was as deep as Aion's was.

I played it on launch, well ARR that is, I have never played Vanilla FF14, all I heard was that it was terrible and a should avoid it like a plague. Anyways I just loved the amount of content the game has to offer. But before I can really put my time to it. I need to quit another MMO before I can put my dedication to FF14. I ended up playing Aion too much to suddenly quit. I sold my account back 3 years ago and have a seller remorse when I came back.

And being completed off topic,, i just wanted to share off a pic of my toon on Aion, since no one really talks about Aion these days.

I got into the PS4 beta, then had to revert to playing on my PS3 until the full PS4 version was released. I don't have a good PC for gaming (for now), so I knew that I wanted to play FFXIV on PS3 instead of PC. I waited patiently once Legacy was released, but then it bombed and we eventually got ARR. I actually really regret not playing Legacy. Even if it wasn't good, it would have been nice to have a point of reference (and, frankly, some of the exclusive things such as mounts). At that point, I basically was turned off of FFXIV, but once I got a chance to jump into the PS4 beta (remembering that the PS4 was very new at the time so it had few decent games), I was totally sold on it.

As for Aion, I'll admit that I've never heard of it until now. Character customisation in FFXIV could definitely be better but I still like it. One thing that bothers me is the voice selection. Obviously, you can preview each of the voices for different emotions or whatever, but I often like different voices for different things. However, you can't mix and match them, and that just kinda sucks. I appreciate that there are quite a number of opportunities - both paid and free - to change the way your character looks (even down to race), as well as having a decent amount of creatable characters.

I think my favourite part, though, is being able to switch classes and jobs on the fly. In WoW, I'd end up having a bunch of different characters so I could play all the classes and races, etc. It's a pain in the ass. I also find that, even though each class/job has a separate level, there are a lot of different tasks you can do to gain experience points. It seems that whenever you run out of one thing to do, you find another.

Oh, and Square Enix's support has been pretty good. It seems almost every time they release a patch (which is at least once a month), they're adding more and more new features to improve the game.

The only thing I'm really curious about now is playing FFXI. I don't know how bearable it'd be after playing FFXIV, but I kinda feel that I should play through it in its entirety since it's technically a main-line Final Fantasy game. I'm not sure what will happen when it eventually goes offline, though. I doubt they will, but I really hope that Square Enix makes the effort to make it playable offline. From what I've heard, it plays more like a traditional Final Fantasy game than an MMORPG, and indeed has a full story that you play through from beginning to end like in FFXIV (although how good the story is, I'm not sure). That's one thing that annoys me with World of Warcraft - the story changes with every new expansion, so if you are just starting out, the story has progressed and you are starting in the middle of it. This has basically been a problem since Burning Crusade. Hopefully Heavensward doesn't do this. That would suck.
